FOO FIGHTERS was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance.

Dave Grohl's opening post-Nirvana salvo, FOO FIGHTERS seems merely ordinary only in the wake of the historic, sweetly abrasive sensations that his previous band was famous for. Full of both lilting summer-breeze melodies and search-and-destroy guitar blasts, it helps present the case that Grohl's punk-pop blueprint just might be as forward-minded as Kurt Cobain's was, if slightly less grungy and a bit more blue-collar.

Arriving at its destination by coupling pure '60's guitar-pop with the hyperkinetic pace of hardcore, FOO FIGHTERS takes most of its song-hooks for a joyous high-speed ride. Tracks such as the prankster-ish kiss-off, "This Is A Call," and the meditative-but-bitter "Good Grief" are perfect pop nuggets, with turbo-jet guitars propelling them. There are brief respites from such reckless rolling: the glammy verse-chorus-bridge of "Alone + Easy Target," the near-folky "For All The Cows," the sweetly Squeeze-like "Big Me." Yet, these are only refueling stops for Grohl (who recorded most of the album alone) before he turns the engines back on and blows through alterna-pop's speed limits.

Named after UFO-like apparitions that U.S. fighter pilots claimed to have seen during World War II, FOO FIGHTERS chooses to ignore Grohl's tumultous real-life connections (there are few, if any, kiss-and-tell lyrics) in favor of establishing a separate musical identity. It's as though the songwriter felt there was little of Planet Nirvana worth rehashing, and decided to find a new (if similar) musical satellite to call his own.

Rolling Stone (1/25/96, p.41) - Ranked #2 in the 1996 Critics' Poll.
Rolling Stone (8/10/95, pp.56-57) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...Like Nirvana's best work, these songs sagely embrace alternative rock's essential contradiction--this is 'popular' music devised by an alienated few....If FOO FIGHTERS has a theme, it's that music remains the ultimate anodyne."
Spin (12/95, p.63) - Ranked #20 on Spin's list of the '20 Best Albums Of '95.'
Spin (9/95, p.107) - 7 - Flawed Yet Worthy - "...Grohl hides behind his rapacious hooks like he disappears between his words...yet another impenetrable veil. FOO FIGHTERS seesaws efficiently, even rambunctiously, but there's a distance, a sheen to it..."
Entertainment Weekly (7/14/95, p.55) - "...Most of these songs are so disarmingly hooky, and yet such a raw blast of energy, that it's as if Lennon and McCartney had grown up in Seattle. Not necessarily an important album, but a surprising one." - Rating: B+
Q (8/95, p.118) - 3 Stars - Good - "...Foo Fighters are grunge-quite-lite....not with the country or pop leanings of, say, Soul Asylum, but with harder-sounding songs rendered accessible by layers of melody, much of it descended directly from Roger McGuinn if he'd had fewer strings..."
Melody Maker (12/23-30/95, pp.66-67) - Ranked #26 on Melody Maker's list of 1995's 'Albums Of The Year.'
Melody Maker (6/24/95, p.36) - Bloody Essential - "...a play-loud summer blast....the band is so blissfully on-the-money it's almost as perfect as The Young Gods, were the Swiss maestros weaned on Husker Du and Anastasia Screamed. We're talking THAT breathtaking, that joyously gone..."
Musician (9/95, p.88) - "...full of smart, crafty, kick-ass music....one can hear how much Grohl's musicianship guided Nirvana's sound--the album is packed with simple, forceful melodies, precise harmonies, and inventive arrangements..."
Village Voice (2/20/96) - Ranked #6 in Village Voice's 1995 Pazz & Jop Critics' Poll.
New York Times (Publisher) (1/6/96, p.C16) - Included on Jon Pareles' list of the Top 10 Albums of '95 - "...[Grohl's] songs stare down misgivings with cryptic lyrics, memorable tunes and a willingness to bash ahead."
NME (Magazine) (12/23-30/95, pp.22-23) - Ranked #12 in NME's 'Top 50 Albums Of The Year' for 1995.
NME (Magazine) (6/24/95, p.54) - 9 (out of 10) - "...hurtling, memorable songs, satisfyingly crunchy guitars, and an unambiguously joyful spirit....Grohl sounds blazingly optimistic....[a] talented man at last gaining the confidence and wherewithal to seize control of his own artistic destiny....a massively important record..."

5 stars FOO
Amazing and briliant album. Nothing like Nirvana but very similar all at once. Much rougher edges than any other Foo album which is why it's my "favorite". Every track builds and breathes with some of the catchiest (without being hokey) riffs I know of. Now anyone who would say Cobain was the ONLY talent in Nirvana? Have you actually listened to them or did one of your friends say that and you just repeat what other people say? Nirvana was a whole, a group force that only became what it truly was after Grohl joined the band. And that's another amazing aspect of the 1st foo fighters album in that it's basically only Grohl playing all the instruments like Matthew Sweet or Beck. But it sounds as collective as any album made. For those 2 people who still don't know, if you crave Grohl's drumming and want more but havn't heard the Queen's of the Stone Age cd Songs For the Deaf- really great almost mathmatically perfect drums by Grohl.

5 stars WHAT MAGIC
It's a fantastic album I thought Kurt Cobain was the only talented member in Nirvana seems nirvana is now over it's hard to belive that Dave Ghoul created such magic in this album if you liked Nirvana's nevermind you will like this one. Dave Grohl is a legend i'm glad that there is two pieces of Nirvana still in the foo fighter Dave Grohl and Pat Smear. It's also hard to belive that it's Dave's 2nd time at Robert Lang's studio recording in 1994 and songs listed here were Dave's Nirvana songs like Big Me, Exhasted and Febuary stars he recorded those songs at Robert Langs studios in Jan 94 with Nirvana when Kurt Cobain recorded "you know your right" it was the last session for nirvana and the first recording session for foo fighters in less than a year at Robert Langs. The best 90s solo album I have heard it's a must get.

5 stars This would have been the new Nirvana album
Lets face it, Cobain was out of material. This Foo Fighters cd would have still been released only under the name Nirvana, get off your high horse Nirvana fan boys. Great cd though.

Foo Fighters There Is Nothing Left To Lose CD  (1999)

Foo Fighters
CD $8.99  4.3 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Learn To Fly" won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video. The song was also nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. In the time following the disintegration of Nirvana, Dave Grohl worked hard at establishing the Foo Fighters. The release of the band's third album was a triumph that came on the heels of a label switch, Grohl's divorce, and the departure of three band members. Despite all the chaos, the former Nirvana skinbasher managed to record a collection of songs that meld the power of his punk roots with an innate sense of melodicism. Sure to shock and dismay indie purists are such abundant '70s classic rock quirks as the stomping Foghat-like riffs of "Gimme Stitches" and the Frampton-influenced talk box that colors "Generator." Elsewhere, the pounding force of the scathing "Stacked Actors" and the driving "Breakout" contain elements of a hard-hitting rhythmic style that has its roots in the D.C. hardcore scene that spawned Grohl. The true beauty of THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE is the way in which the Foo Fighters maintain ...

ONE BY ONE won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Times Like These" was nominated for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "All My Life" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. "All My Life" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. In between manning drums for the Queens Of The Stone Age album SONGS FOR THE DEAF and the 2003 all-star death metal side-project Probot, Dave Grohl turned out ONE BY ONE, the Foo Fighters' fourth studio outing. With the Foo's line-up remaining intact for the second consecutive album, Grohl's posse set about sanding down the lighter, pop-inflected nuances of the album's predecessor THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE. From the opening cut/lead single "All My Life," the Foo Fighters serve notice that amps are cranked and guitars are far beyond being set on stun. This intense outpouring of energy manifests itself well on the simmering tension of "Low," buzzing melodicism of "Times Like These (One-Way Motorway)," and the drill-press relentlessness of "Have It All." Taking a page from the book of his former group Nirvana, Grohl has fun playing around with dynamics particularly on the bipolar subtle/screaming "Disenchanted Lullaby" and "Lonely As You," a chugging number that seamlessly goes from a lightly strummed intro ...

THE COLOUR & THE SHAPE was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Album. "Monkey Wrench" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. Now that Dave Grohl has gotten through the intense scrutiny leveled at the Foo Fighters' debut, this follow-up finds him flexing his creative muscles a little easier. Forgoing the autocratic approach of FOO FIGHTERS, THE COLOUR & SHAPE allows the other members of the band a greater amount of influence, which quickly becomes evident. The punk-pop nuggets outnumber the thrashier moments on this record. Nevertheless, Grohl's time on the D.C. hardcore scene is never far from the creative process, whether it's the first squeals and squawks that pop up around the hooks and screaming vocals of "Hey, Johnny Park" and "My Poor Brain" or the alternating, Nirvana-like dynamics of "Enough Space." Elsewhere, the dreamy pop of "Walking After You" (recorded in one take by Grohl at Washington, D.C. radio station WGNS) and "Up ...

Foo Fighters continue to redefine the parameters of the post-grunge rock world with their fifth album, IN YOUR HONOR. Dave Grohl and company flesh out their impressive canon with a two-CD set--the first disc plugged-in and packed with screaming guitars and vocals, while the second disc showcases the band's more acoustic and ethereal side. The loud-soft-loud dynamic approach of Grohl's former band for resonates quite a bit through Disc One. "Free Me" turns the distortion down briefly ...

Kenny Werner has long seemed to be one of the best-kept secrets in jazz, recording a number of fine dates for various labels but never achieving the wide acclaim he clearly deserves. This live set, recorded in early 2003 at the Blue Note, features the veteran pianist with bassist Johannes Weidenmüller and drummer Ari Hoenig, kicking off with a breathtaking medley of two Wayne Shorter compositions, "Pinocchio" and "Fall." His playful reworking of the standard "All the Things You Are," called "All Things Are You," refuses to be pigeonholed, at times suggesting the influence ...

Hailing from the forsaken desert wilderness of California's Salton Sea, Throw Rag does something that surprisingly few other punk bands do these days: they sound an awful lot like the Dead Kennedys, circa 1980. Where most purveyors of non-metal heavy music these days refer to themselves as "post-hardcore," these guys are very definitely pre-hardcore. Listen to "Lil' Danny" and ask yourself how much it reminds you of "Police Truck," and check out the twisted cowpunk saga "So. 5th St. (Country in O.G.)" ...

"Everyone has a journey in life." states singer, songwriter, producer "Briss." "From the womb to the grave," Briss. continues, "...everyone goes from a place ...to a place with various stops along the way called experiences." "Every experience, every situation, friends we meet, things we go through, and our relationships are all a part of this journey." "At the end of the journey, those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ will get to see His Face and praise God in Heaven forever." says Briss. "In fact, even becoming a Christian, from accepting Jesus, or running away trying to hide, to growing in Him, and living life to the fullest through Him, is all a part of this journey. That's what this album is all about." Briss.' much-anticipated debut solo album entitled "THE JOURNEY" will be released this fall. He continues, "Each song on the album is about a certain part of the journey. Just like life, it's deep and it's light at the same time. Christians like to dance...we like to party and get our groove on so "We can Party" is about that. Christians have relationships and fall in love...so "The Time Song" is about that journey. We go through some tough times and wonder how in the world we made it through...so "Chariots-n-Horses" which is based on Psalms 20:7 is about that." "Everything from life... to death... to the time we say "Lord, I Yield...I want to be what You want me to be - Just "Have Your Way With Me!" it's all there." When asked if THE JOURNEY is about his life, Briss.' shyly replies, "Yeah, sort of.... but then again I think it's more about "having Life" through Jesus than about just my own." The journey of singer, songwriter, producer, William C. Brister, Jr. (known as "Briss." by his friends and family) began in Plainfield, NJ where he was born and raised. As a child, Briss grew up listening to the soulful sounds of his dad's R&B/Funk band (known as The Sagittarian Fire) rehearse into the wee hours of the night. He was taught to always hear the music for himself & to always bring himself to the music. " I would sneak and stay up to listen to them rehearse. Sometimes I'd get in trouble but after a while, since they couldn't get rid of me, I was allowed to hang around." Briss accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and began singing in the church choir. Throughout his life he was exposed to all types of music from Gospel, R&B, Pop, Funk, Classical, to Jazz. His musical influences include Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Whitney Houston, Rev. Darryl Coley, Ce Ce Winans, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, and his all-time favorite...- Stevie Wonder. "He can do it all.... he can play, write, sing, produce...and I believe he loves the Lord" says Briss. Briss has accepted his calling and currently serves as the Minister of Music at Ocean Avenue Baptist Church in Jersey City, NJ. "It's a growing music ministry that's striving to be like King David. "We strive to seek after the heart of the Lord in our passion, dedication, and commitment to learning God's word and ministering in song." says Briss. In 1998, Briss. was a featured vocalist on the Sony/Word album release entitled "A Mighty Fortress" by C.D. Hawkins and Singers. He is also an accomplished actor ...
