Pumping Iron Quotes/Excerpts: "The good bodybuilders have the same mind...that a sculptor has. If you analyze it, you look in the mirror and you say, okay, I need a bit more deltoids...so that the proportion's right, and...you exercise and put those deltoids on, whereas an artist would just slap on some clay on each side."--Arnold Schwarzenegger
"Boy, that's fantastic. Fantastic. Imagine how he must feel. Incredible."--Bodybuilder Mike Katz, learning that his rival has won the Mr. Universe competition
"I always felt my place was in America, and when I was ten years old I only dreamed of coming to America and being the greatest and being different from anybody else."--Schwarzenegger
"You know Louis, you look like something Michelangelo carved out."--Matty Ferrigno to his son
"Ive thrown up many times working out, but it's all worth it."--Schwarzenegger Pumping Iron Reviews: "...Interesting....[Schwarzenegger] is a witty [subject]..."
-- Richard Eder, New York Times "Arnold Schwarzenegger had a magnetic screen presence from the beginning."-- Mike Clark, USA Today

exceptional this movie is a true classic. the first time around, it managed to capture the competitive spirit of these athletes and present it in its most positive light. anyone who's pursued the sport of bodybuilding will recognize the comraderie among the athletes and will be impressed by it's long-lasting effects. 25 years later, the athletes consider their time in the sport the best time in their lives. all of that was unwittingly captured in the film, and that's what makes it great. arnold reveals that some gimmicks were developed to market the movie, but none were really needed for this truly great classic. | | Stay Hungry DVD (1976)
Pumping Iron movie DVD
$7.09 In Bob Rafelson's STAY HUNGRY, trust fund baby Craig Blake (Jeff Bridges) gets some lessons in life when he falls in love with a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Eschewing the dull path carved out for him by his wealthy southern family, the easy-going Craig teams up with an ambitious real estate developer in Birmingham, Alabama. In an attempt to wrest a piece of property away from its owner, Craig poses as a member of a seedy gym. But this rich boy soon finds himself taking a genuine fancy to the colorful collection of characters he meets there--in particular, bodybuilder Joe Santo (Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his first major screen role), who is training for the Mr. Universe title, and spunky blue-collar babe Mary Tate (Sally Field), the gym's receptionist. The film, based on the novel by Charles Gaines, is lighthearted, unlike Rafelson's austere earlier classics (FIVE EASY PIECES and KING OF MARVIN GARDENS) but deals with many of the same themes, such as dysfunctional families, restlessness, and rebellion.

| | Red Sonja DVD (1985) Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled
Pumping Iron video
$6.25 RED SONJA is a semisequel to CONAN THE BARBARIAN and CONAN THE DESTROYER. Like those two movies, the film is directed by Richard Fleischer and based on characters created by sword-and-sorcery writer Robert E. Howard. After suffering at the hands of Queen Gedren (Sandahl Bergman), warrior Red Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen) seeks vengeance. When the queen seizes a talisman that yields immense power, Sonja sets out to thwart her. On her journey, Sonja is aided by the mysterious Kalidor (Arnold Schwarzenegger), and meets the 12-year-old Prince Tarn (Eddie Reyes, Jr.) and his bodyguard, Falkon (Paul Smith). After many trials, the quartet arrives in the Land of Perpetual Night where they confront Queen Gedren in her stronghold.
Less violent than CONAN THE BARBARIAN, RED SONJA is more brutal than CONAN THE DESTROYER. The film features a contest between Kalidor and Red Sonja--she has vowed never to give herself to a man unless he defeats her in a fair fight. Comic relief is provided by the young Prince Tarn as he tires of watching their extended battle with very big swords. Fleischer (THE VIKINGS, THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER) is an old hand at directing flamboyant swordplay, and he keeps the action moving to the film's explosive finale.

| | Martin Kane Private Eye - Vol. 2 DVD (1951) Black & White
Pumping Iron video
$7.89 The world's first television private detective, MARTIN KANE PRIVATE EYE gradually became a big hit as America tuned in to watch the affable yet street-smart detective take on the crooks of New York City. The show ran for five seasons with several different actors playing the role of Kane. Each manifestation of the gumshoe had a different style and attitude, but all, invariably, spent a lot of time in Happy McMann's Tobacco Shop (the show was sponsored by U.S. Tobacco). Like much of early television, the sets, props, plots and extras left much to be desired, but Kane's wisecracking mix of cynicism and sentimentality, and the juicy nature of the crimes, kept people coming back for more. Volume Two features four vintage Kane cases: when his wealthy client is murdered Kane himself is fingered for the crime, everyone has a motive to kill a nightclub singer, a crooked jockey gets iced, and a rich patient in an insane asylum dies under mysterious circumstances.

Pumping Iron film
$22.15 Standard Screen; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments
THREE'S COMPANY, the sitcom that spawned endless imitators with its sexy singles-based humor, left a huge mark on the comedy-sitcom genre. Revolving around endless misunderstandings about sexuality and drugs, and playing off quite a few stereotypes, the show displayed John Ritter's knack for physical comedy, delivering laughs through the comedian's outlandish expressions, gestures, and mannerisms. When aspiring chef Jack Tripper (Ritter) tells his landlord, Mr. Roper (Norman Fell), that he is gay in order to peacefully cohabit with a string of attractive female roommates, he must construct a web of lies (which proves almost impossible to unravel) in order to cover his tracks. The seventh season begins with the opening of Jack's bistro, and moves on through endless embarrassing dates, family entanglements, and more. THREE'S COMPANY: SEASON SEVEN contains all 22 episodes from the season starring Jack, Janet (Joyce DeWitt), Terri Alden (Priscilla Barnes), and Mr. Furley (Don Knotts).
