| | Peter Green The Robert Johnson Songbook CD Peter Green Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Most people know Peter Green as the visionary guitar hero behind the original, blues-rocking version of Fleetwood Mac, but he's pursued a solo career ever since departing the Mac, and THE ROBERT JOHNSON SONGBOOK brings him back to his roots. Covering the songs of his early influence Robert Johnson, Green wisely avoids trying to rock things up, opting instead for an appropriately lo-fi, acoustic (if not always solo) approach. Green's deep, husky voice is worlds away from Johnson's high, ghostly wail, lending a different feel to the material, but when Green digs into his guitar on classics like "Terraplane Blues" and "Ramblin' on My Mind," you can hear his Delta blues roots come rushing to the fore.
The Robert Johnson Songbook is Peter Green's first recording made entirely of covers of the music written by the King of the Delta Blues. Unfortunately, though pleasant, The Robert Johnson Songbook lacks the warmth and soulfulness of its successor -- Hot Foot Powder. The Robert Johnson Songbook features Green's Splinter Group, plus a guest appearance by Paul Rodgers. [In 2003, and later in 2008, the United Kingdom's Snapper imprint reissued this set with two extra tracks, bringing the album to a total of 16 cuts -- with different covers for each. The first reissue contains the original Artisan cover, while the 2008 one contains a cheesier painted one. The extra numbers here are "Terraplane Blues" and "Dust My Broom," both essential to the Robert Johnson story.] ~ Tim Griggs and Thom Jurek
Personnel: Peter Green (guitar); Peter Green (vocals, harmonica); Nigel Watson (vocals, guitar); Paul Rodgers (vocals); Roger Cotton (piano); Neil Murray (bass guitar); Larry Tolfree (drums).
Liner Note Author: Russell Beecher.

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
The Robert Johnson Songbook CD music
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go ...

| | Nas Stillmatic CD (2001)
The Robert Johnson Songbook songs
$24.45 Contains the bonus track "Every Ghetto," which follows "What Goes Around."
STILLMATIC is the fifth album from New York rapper Nas, considered his best since his debut ILLMATIC. It featuring the singles "Got Ur Self a..." and "One Mic".
Japanese edition features three bonus tracks not released anywhere else: "No Idea is Original", "Everybody's Crazy", and "Black Zombies".
In 1994, Nas dropped his debut, ILLMATIC. More than just a classic, it's perhaps the definitive East Coast street hip-hop record, bereft of cliché, rife with rich, inventive rhymes. His early coronation proved both blessing and curse, as his three follow-ups, while shining next to most platinum peers, never reached the ingenious heights of his introduction. Just by the title, STILLMATIC makes obvious its yearning to recapture that feel, a ridiculously tall order if not an impossible one, but it comes dangerously close, which merely makes it one of the top albums of its year.
At times it feels as if half of STILLMATIC consists of shots at Jay-Z, ex-cohort Prodigy, and others, at times thinly veiled, other times not veiled at all (the opening two words of "Ether"). Out of the mouths of others, this game would be old and boring. What allows Nas transcendence is that he is not your average hater posturing to sell records, he's earnestly responding to a slander with his supreme, unwavering lyrical style. Nas has an insane arsenal of words and an acute sense of incongruity, best illustrated on "Destroy and Rebuild," where he reverses the guns of KRS-One's blistering ...

| | Champion Jack Dupree Dupree 'N' Mcphee - The 1967 Blue Horizon Session CD (2005) (Import) United Kingdom
The Robert Johnson Songbook CD music
$12.69 A rare and unique 1967 session featuring one of the Blues' most beloved singers backed solely by the extraordinary guitar work of the young Tony 'TS' McPhee of Groundhogs fame. The only sides released from this session formed a limited edition, and now quite rare, single in 1967. Most of this material has never been heard publicly since the day it was recorded, 38 years ago. McPhee was close to the beginning of his long recording career when this session was committed to tape, and has since rightly gained recognition as one of the UK's foremost blues and rock guitarists. Ace's immaculate remastering puts the listener in the room with Jack and Tony. ACE. 2005.
The session at which these 16 tracks were recorded (in 1967, though there's some speculation it might have been done earlier) was a most unusual one for Champion Jack Dupree, and to a lesser degree for T.S. McPhee. Although Dupree was a pianist, not only does he play no piano here -- there is no piano to be heard. Instead, the sole accompaniment is the acoustic guitar of T.S. McPhee, soon to become famous as the figurehead of the British blues-rock band the ...
