It'd been far too long since Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. reared their collective menacing heads around the scene. After disappearing for several years, the clan regrouped with a monster of a record in West Koasta Nostra. It's a welcome return for the group, whose production skills and lyrical delivery are as fierce as ever. Aside from having an average of three guests per track, Mack 10, Kurupt, and Knoc-Turn'al all make strong appearances that rival deliveries on their own respective albums, but it's Cypress Hill's B Real and Eminem's appearance on "911" that unquestionably makes the track the crown jewel of West Koasta Nostra. DVD includes the Tribal Scars trailer.
This release includes a bonus DVD. Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E.: Samoan Godfather, Kobra, Monsta O, Ganxsta Ridd, Murder One, Gawtti (rap vocals). Additional personnel: Mack 10, Kurupt, Knoc-turn'al, Oyster Boy, King Lu, Eminem, B-Real, Gail Gotti, Short Khop, Murder 1, W.C., Fiji, Crooked I, Eastwood, Kokane, Baby-Down. Recorded at Sarinjay, Santa Monica, California and Front Page Studios, Glendale, California. S It'd been far too long since Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. reared their collective menacing heads around the scene. After disappearing for several years, the clan regrouped with a monster of a record in West Koasta Nostra. It's a welcome return for the group, whose production skills and lyrical delivery are as fierce as ever. However, it all seems as if something is missing. What makes this album as strong as it is can't really be contributed to the production or Boo-Yaa's rhymes, but the unbelievable quality of the guest appearances that carry the album through start to finish. It's not a classic on par with 1990's New Funky Nation, but for those longtime diehards who had been awaiting a return to form, West Koasta is welcome relief. ~ Rob Theakston

| West Koasta Nostra Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Review of the leaked tracks as of 9/27 1. Bang On ft. Mack 10, nice beat by Battlecat, the hook is a little repetitive but the rest of the song makes up for it.
2. On Me ft. Kurupt, nice verses by Ridd and Kurupt, nice beat by Battlecat (like always), once again the hook could've used something else too it
2. State Of Emergency ft. Knoc-Turnal, Oyster Boy, and King Lou, judging from the minute or so snippet, this will probably end up being my favorite off the album, Battlecat yet again brings the heat (this guy is underrated, in fact I'm not gonna bother commenting on the album's beats cuz BC rips up everyone), can't really say anything about the verses yet as I've only heard 1 and a half of probably 4 or 5
4. 911 ft. Eminem & B-Real (from Cypress Hill), the Eminem production is not as good as the rest of the album's BC beats, but I can deal with the song as a whole, as Em, B-Real, and Ridd come with some decent verses
6. Heated ft. Short Khop, Boo Yaa is great here, but Short Khop just annoys me, always has, so I guess I'm a littled biased
7. The Kalling ft. Murder One, darker song comparitively to the album up to this point, but just as tight
8. N Full Motion ft. WC, funky, funky, funky, that about sums up this song, normally I can't stand WC, but he's not bad here
9. Legends, the only song without guest appearances, judging from this minute and a half snippet, this will probably be my second favorite, once again thats about all I can say from the little I've heard so far
11. Take Yo Fade ft. Crooked I, Eastwood, & Kokane, no surprise Crook and East bring some major heat, Kokane is alright on the hook, third favorite from the album
If you don't know the Boo Yaa Tribe, like I didn't prior to hearing Gangsta Ridd on the Dysfunktional Family soundtrack, by this album simply for the crazy production and the excellent guest spots. Submitted by a reviewer (Atlanta, GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
