Murder by Death is, like many other bands, a confused band. Who Will Survive, and What Will Be Left of Them, their sophomore LP, after having released their debut under the name Little Joe Gould, finds the Indiana-based quintet developing a concept album about how the Devil is shot in a small, Western town and the aftermath that follows. While the music is played competently, it's what is not done that undoes the band. Utilizing both a keyboardist and a cellist, it's unfortunate that much of the album finds the two buried in the mix or following the guitar instead of taking charge with some creativity. Adam Turla's vocals, which were formerly British-influenced on their debut, are now seemingly more Texan than anything. It comes across as rather odd considering the direction of the story line. All in all, Who Will Survive is a competent album, with quality production and an interesting idea behind the lyrics. Unfortunately, it's the band's inability to take advantage of what should set itself apart that ultimately makes the album seem rather average. ~ Kurt Morris

Murder By Death Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them Songs Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) On A Par with Dylan Songwriting This album, for me, was definatly an aqquired taste. It starts off kind of slow, but have patience cuz the best is yet to come. The bands name may be a little misleading. As they are not a hardcore, metalcore, or metal band. They create their own genre and style. Which is very rare and good to see these days. The lyrics are all tied together in a storyline. Very mature excellent writing. With 5 members (one guitarist/singer, one bassists, one drummer, one pianist, one chelloist) this band is as unique as slipknot(not that they sound anything alike). The Key songs are "Killbot 2000", "A Master's in Reverse Psychology", "End of the Line" and "Unitl Morale Improves the beatings will continue"(with the greatest line 'I drink whiskey instead of water'). These guys are musical genuisis'. If you liked their first album this ones even better. And if you've never heard of em go get this cd now. A+ for originality A cutting edge rock with great basslines and a...piano? Outstanding blend of anger, melancholy and reflection with a storyline to match. Still waiting to see a live show. First heard of them in Connecticut, and the live show reviews are fantastic. Submitted by mikorad (San Diego, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them album
$12.95 Though its artwork suggests some long-lost effort from Rachel's, the zany titles of Little Joe Gould's second effort seem to mark it sonically in the vein of Atom & His Package or MC Paul Barman. Nothing could be further from the reality. Instead, LJG's lineup includes piano and cello on top of the normal emo/post-hardcore compliment of guitars, bass, and heady drumming. Over top, vocalist Adam Turla rambles on in faux-dramatic ...
