Consisting of one track that clocks in at just over 74 minutes, DELIRIUM CORDIA is the third studio release by Fantomas, the avant-metal supergroup formed by vocalist Mike Patton (ex-Faith No More, Mr. Bungle), guitarist Buzz Osborne (Melvins), bassist Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle), and drummer Dave Lombardo (Slayer). Renowned for their chaotic bursts of noise and penchant for eerie ambience, Patton and company incorporate both into this extended piece, which seems to follow the nightmares and hallucinations of a hospital patient drifting in and out of sleep, consciousness, and possibly even death.
From slowly building drones and abrupt rhythmic freak-outs to monk-like chanting and water flowing, DELIRIUM CORDIA shifts from one movement to another, at times settling briefly on a quiet, almost serene passage before morphing into another dreamscape. It's evident here that Patton has drawn from his collaborations with eclectic composer John Zorn and his Naked City project, with much of the music tipping its hat to the largely ambient ABSINTHE album. Listening to DELIRIUM CORDIA is like watching a David Lynch film with your eyes closed; what you hear but don't see is inarguably bizarre yet oddly fascinating. Note: Faint-of-heart listeners may want to avoid looking at the surgery-themed booklet.
Recorded in Los Angeles, California, 2003.
Fantomas: Mike Patton (vocals); Buzz "King Buzzo" Osborne (guitar); Trevor Dunn (bass); Dave Lombardo (percussion).
Rolling Stone (1/22/04, p.72) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...[Incorporates] noise rock, free-form jazz, chamber music, klezmer, and spooky piano lines straight out of a HALLOWEEN movie....CORDIA demands repeated listens, if only to hear the freakish wonder that is Mike Patton's voice..." Twisted Soundscapes from Patton This new Fantomas album was not what I was expecting at all! After their first two albums, I was expecting a full-on band explosion, instead, Delirium Cordia is a gloomy, atmospheric, and downright frightening fabric of soundscapes. It sounds more like a Patton solo album created from various recordings and sound files than a proper studio band album. It completely blows my mind and gets more interesting with every listen. NOT for the casual listener - but Patton fans will not be disappointed! Submitted by ratned (Hamden, CT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pheeeeeew! Listening to this crazy stuff is like traveling through some demonic house which realy needs a help of a exorcist. It´s like a visit in Mr. Patton´s brain and I can tell you It´s mind blowing experience. This CD shows us the music can have a millions of faces. Better & better with every repeat..... Crazy Wierd Lemme tell ya, this is one original cd. Patton keeps his music left field, and thats why I keep listening. This cd goes to almost every style of music. Listen to this cd at home, don't take it with you in a car or whatever. It is made to be listened to all the way through. Not like the first releases at all, but still touches on the original sound at the same time. Theres screams, moans, undescribable stuff throughout the whole freakin thing. After awhile of repeated listens, it gets extremely relaxing to jam to. Can't for more. Buy this cd if you like crazy music. Plus the Booklets to die for! Delirium Cordia
$13.65 The first project Mike Patton worked on after the April 1998 breakup of Faith No More was the all-star Fantomas. Heavy metal fans everywhere salivated at the lineup of Patton on vocals, the Melvins' Buzz Osborne on guitar, ex-Slayer Dave Lombardo on drums, and Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn on bass. But as longtime fans have come to learn long ago, always expect the unexpected with Patton-related projects. The band's self-titled debut (the first for Patton's record label, Ipecac) is far from your conventional rock; composed and produced entirely by the singer, the songs serve as a soundtrack ...

Delirium Cordia
$13.05 Fantomas stand with their feet planted horizontally across the soft dimensions of your face, warping the shape of your skull and shoulders with their off-color explosions. With expectations withering on the floor, leaving a viscous stink, nothing in their hands is concrete. As a follow-up to their 30-song debut, throughout which vocalist Mike Patton never formed a single actual word, Fantomas offer these 16 new creations, all realigned versions of film soundtracks, ranging from the notorious theme to Rosemary's Baby to the obscure and peculiar wank of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. While there are many ...

| | Kaada Romances CD (2004)
Delirium Cordia
$13.95 Mike Patton and fellow Ipecac resident Kaada's collaboration Romances dwells in the twilight zone where spooky and seductive meet. Both artists' work reveals a love of cinematic music: Kaada is an award-winning film music composer in his native Norway, and Patton has paid homage to great horror scores on Fantômas' Director's Cut. Romances is just as filmic as that album -- actually, the affection for the spooky, evocative and arranged is the biggest romance going on here -- but it is less noisy and intense, and more obviously melodic and playful than Director's Cut. "Invocation"'s creepily whimsical melody and choral voices, for example, recall Danny Elfman's work more than Fantômas' grislier sound. Patton's fondness for over-the-top theatricality tends to dominate Romances, particularly on the eight-minute ...

"Never Be The Same" follows this with Beth Gibbons-like ruminations, and the "$10 Whore" boasts an operatic opening for the rather unsympathetic treatment of the subject. Touting themselves as "electrorganic super pop," Glovebox's sound could be a bit more "super" sometimes, but their Aussie dance-pop gets those down under to shake their down unders.Music Reviews of Modern Rock, Emo, Lo-Fi, Art Rock, Folk, Alternative, PopSmother MagazineGrab your pill box and your bottle of vintage (or at least that’s what you’re telling your fellow partiers) red wine. Rejoice it’s a party! Glovebox is here to pump new life into electro pop forging music to party with and all of this from down under in Australia. Occasionally hitting on the New Wave styles like with the robotic voice on album opener “Superstar” and the electronic beats prevalent throughout the entire self-titled affair, Glovebox makes singer Mishka sound like the female version of Thomas Dolby. Each song is incredibly catchy to the point of being plain infectious; with tracks this delightful and radio-friendly it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Glovebox is soon to be known as Australia’s best export.A Bold Type of ChangeMX - Melbourne Based NewspaperExperimenting with her computer helped singer Mishkas find inspiration for more than just an album cover. By the time the Queensland born St Kilda based singer had finished scrolling through the typefaces on offer, she had renamed her band. "We got it from the fonts," Mishka explained, when asked how the Melbourne foursome came up with Glovebox. "There's a font called Glovebox on Photoshop. So that's ...
