Spin (01/04, p.100) - "...Emo MC/Fugazi fan Sage Francis and producer Joe Beats sound convincingly pissed on their first record..." - Grade: A- Q (12/03, p.133) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Given the magnificent low-end slinkiness of Beats', er, beats, and Sage's exhilarating spiel, it's only a matter of time before the mainstream throws up its hands and comes to them..." Hope
$14.69 Personnel includes: Aesop Rock, Illogic, C Rayz Walz. Producers: Aesop Rock, Blockhead, Omega One. Personnel: Aesop Rock (vocals); Omega One (scratches). Recording information: The House. After finding an eager online audience for his dense soundscapes and even more complex rhymes, New York MC Aesop Rock released his most potent combination of words and music on his Def Jux debut. Crammed with references to history and mythology, as well as the usual pop-culture name checks, Aesop's lyrics remain unusually verbose and intelligent here, but he's also able to spin them into compelling stories. The best example is the bittersweet, follow-your-dreams saga of "No Regrets," which chronicles ...

Hope
$42.29 All but a handful previously unreleased, these 72 tracks serve up an alternate history of Fairport Convention in a manner that doesn't simply befit Britain's longest-running folk-rock soap opera, it actually amplifies the group's achievements beyond any past (or possibly future) collection ever could. The "official" story of the band, after all, can be traced on any number of collections, ranging from the original 1972 History Of album through to 1998's Fiddlestix and 2001's Some of Our Yesterdays. The group's often superior outtakes, radio sessions, and live odds and ends, however, have generally been scattered piecemeal across a plethora of other releases, many of which don't even appear under Fairport's own banner -- anthologies of Sandy Denny, Ashley Hutchings, and Richard Thompson, odd folk collections, passing label samplers, and so much more all bear treasures that even the ...

| | Gatecrasher: Christopher Lawrence Live In Moscow CD (2007) England
Hope
$19.49 Who better to launch Gatecrasher's new series of in-concert mix sets than American star Christopher Lawrence, who placed number four in DJ Magazine's 2006 Top 100 DJ poll? Lawrence gets the party started with Activa's propulsive "Perception," a four-on-the-floor-driven trance number sure to get the crowd moving. "Made in Bahrain" toughens up the sound, even as the center brightens and space effects swoop across the grooves. Listeners and dancers arrive in the exotic climes of "Tabriz" on a compulsive rhythm, then take off into outer space with Astralis' "Solar Flare" The fiery beats are unquenchable, but Lawrence turns the set down to a simmer with "Landmark," while simultaneously bearing down on the rhythm before breaking free in a stutter of cool samples and a flurry of beats on "Dominator." "Dynamic Swell, Pt. 2" sends the set boiling over, heated up by the cinematic sound, space effects, ringing guitar, and vocal samples. Riding this wave of sound is a spy-esque melody line, a James Bond theme for the 23rd century. "Offender" quickens the pace, which ebbs and flows in a stutter of new wavey synth melody. "Connexions" hardens the sound, sporting an old-school feel but an almost ...
