In the dense annual blizzard of holiday albums, A VERY SPECIAL ACOUSTIC CHRISTMAS shines like a gleaming treetop star from a warm, inviting living room, thanks to its organic, no-frills approach and its remarkable lineup of performers. Dan Tyminski (of O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? fame) offers up a charming version of "Frosty the Snowman," while Willie Nelson lends his legendary voice and guitar playing to a fine take on "Please Come Home for Christmas." Alison Krauss contributes her surprisingly poppy "Only You Can Bring Me Cheer (Gentleman's Lady)," Marty Stuart confides that "Even Santa Claus Gets the Blues," and Pat Green saunters through a relaxed "Winter Wonderland." Bringing the Yuletide album to an appropriate close is Norah Jones, in a beautiful solo rendition of Horace Silver's "Peace."Rolling Stone (12/25/03-1/8/04, p.122) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...[A] classy country-and-bluegrass benefit [that] avoids Nashville crassness in favor of an album suggesting O SANTA, WHERE ART THOU?..." Entertainment Weekly (12/19/03, p.74) - (12/19/03, p.74) - "...[This VERY SPECIAL collection] merits the name..." - Rating: B+ Very Special Acoustic Christmas Music Very Special Acoustic Christmas Songs Very Special Acoustic Christmas Music Review Purchase Very Special Acoustic Christmas CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Van Zant Brother To Brother CD (1998)

Very Special Acoustic Christmas
$6.69 Social Enterprise represents a departure from our previous song based albums. This one is really about using up some of our older or less well developed material and arranging and replaying it and allowing the tunes to spill out into completely different tangents. The (unexpected) result is that we ended up with a number of instrumental pieces, a long song, a poem, kids chanting and reciting and a host of guitar and drum machine sounds. Some of these tunes date back to the early eighties (not these recordings however) and they have survived on a long and odd stretch of musical roadway.We\'ve tried to mix dynamics and textures a bit differently too - and you can be the judge as to how effectively this has worked.Social enterprise is happy at times, moody, strange, hypnotic in places, annoying, compulsive and very much a new enterprise and experiment for us. Maybe this extract from the sleeve notes will help:\"This album is one of those things that came out of what seemed a simple idea, take the old songs, songs and pieces that have been played and played around and redo them differently, take them of at different tangents and see how far they can or can\'t be stretched. It then turned into a run in on guitar sounds and tones, trying to blend the electric and effects with the acoustic. Trying ...
