This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Death Cab for Cutie finally delivers on its promise with its fourth album, TRANSATLANTICISM. Although the band's earlier outings have excellent moments, this collection of indie power-pop plays to Death Cab's strengths, wrapping Ben Gibbard's plaintive vocals and emotive lyrics in consistently dynamic and engaging arrangements. The album opens with the majestic surge of "The New Year," and moves to the instantly catchy "Lightness." While guitars chime over solid bass-and-drums backing, Gibbard's melancholy tales unfold, drawing the listener in further with each song, largely due to the perfect production of guitarist Chris Walla. By the time the wide-screen title track runs it course and the album ends with the oddly optimistic "A Lack of Color," it becomes clear that this is one of those albums that you'll listen to over and over again.
Their fourth studio album blends subtle songwriting, amazing production, boundless creativity, and thoughtful rock. 11 tracks. Barsuk. 2003.

This is an outstanding disk. The consistent theme of distance works on multiple levels. The most significance of which is the length that narrator attempts to move away from his own emotions. Somehow the musical movements float us over this mythical pond of feelings. Rarely do we dive into the pain, but we cannot deny it's presence is thick. For those who appreciate a substantial dose of "good pain," this mature, finely crafted travelogue is for you.

another winner
ok, i'm easy when it comes to this band. this cd compares closely to that other ben gibbard band "the postal service" and their cd "give up". lost love, hope, inspiration, it's all here and the metaphorical lyrics, especially on "title and registration" give the songs an emotional connection. "transatlanticism", while lyrically sparse, uplifts the whole cd. another great death cab cd.

This could quite a serious record to listen to compared to Plans and We Have The Facts & We're Voting Yes. As soon you hear The New Year and We Looked Like Giants, that's the record I'm looking for. I've stopped dead in the middle with Plans. I swear there's no intimacy on the mainstream, I tell ya!

This album is great " lack of color" is just so relaxing and care free. This music will make you feel beautiful

While you can hear the raw talent that fully matures on "Plans", the first half of this album is irritatingly uneven.
However, things improve on the second half, so if you hang in there, you'll be rewarded.

Canadian singer/songwriter Amanda Marshall is concerned about the difference between appearance and reality on her third album, Everybody's Got a Story.
