| | Billy Ray Cyrus Other Side CD Billy Ray Cyrus Discography of CDs
(8 Customer Reviews)
Years after "Achy Breaky Heart" had fallen from the charts, and Billy Ray Cyrus's legendary mullet had been replaced by a stylishly coifed 'do, the Kentucky native, for many, remained the ultimate embodiment of a one-hit-wonder who relied on style over substance. Those who were quick to dismiss Cyrus, however, have missed a surprisingly consistent and enjoyable catalog of expertly sung and emotionally resonant new-traditionalist country music. With THE OTHER SIDE, TV's "Doc" continues to silence the critics by delivering a heartfelt collection of inspirational and Christian-themed country and roots-rock that often has more to do with Nashville artists like Clint Black and Alan Jackson than with the novelty material he favored earlier in his career. Cyrus has picked a great group of songs here, rich with descriptive detail and storytelling narrative. In addition, the singer's voice has become a nicely worn-in instrument, capable of delivering passionate readings that rival the best of his more celebrated contemporaries.
With sales of more than 14 million records to his credit, and starring in the #1-rated PAX TV series ''Doc'' as it begins its fourth season, Billy Ray Cyrus comes back home to his gospel heritage with the inspiring, uplifting and most country-rockin' gospel album of the year. Includes a DVD with interview and behind-the-scenes footage from the 'Doc' set, recording studio and Billy Ray's home. Word/Curb. 2003.
Recorded at Emerald Entertainment, Nashville, Tennessee.
Personnel includes: Billy Ray Cyrus (vocals); Terry Shelton, B. James Lowery (acoustic guitar); Billy Joe Walker, Jr. (electric guitar, gut string guitar); Pat Buchanan, Brent Mason (electric guitar); Dan Dugmore (slide guitar); Jonathan Yudkin (fiddle); Kevin Haynie (banjo); John Jarvis (piano, Hammond B-3 organ); Gordon Mote (Hammond B-3 organ, synthesizer); Michael Rhodes, Glenn Worf, Dave Pomeroy (bass); Paul Leim (drums, tambourine); Lonnie Wilson, Greg Morrow (drums); Bekka Bramlett, Kim Carnes, Wendi Green, Richard Marx, Gene Miller, Kim Parent, Joe Scaife, Chance Scoggins, Harry Stinson (background vocals).

| | Ozzy Osbourne Ozzmosis CD (1995) Remastered
Other Side album
$7.59 Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing.
Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting.
But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne The Ozzman Cometh CD (2002)
Other Side CD music
$9.69 THE OZZMAN COMETH is a single CD collection of hits, previously unavailable recordings and one new track. Previously included a limited edition second disc containing 2 of the 4 previously unavailable recordings as well as an interview with Ozzy Osbourne.
As if we needed another reason to believe that Ozzy Osbourne is God, along comes THE OZZMAN COMETH, a double CD retrospective of one of the most enduring and influential figures in heavy metal. Consisting mostly of his post-Black Sabbath solo work as well as a live version of "Paranoid," this collection's biggest asset is the so-called "basement tapes," never-before-heard rehearsal tapes of four classic Sabbath songs. Dating back to 1970, "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs" are the songs that transformed a petty thief ...

Other Side songs
$14.55 Lloyd brought to this collection of whaling songs and ballads a love and knowledge of the subject inspired by his own experience at sea. The harsh life of the whaler is described in laments, shanties and narrative songs.
No one is likely to accuse this collection of suffering from a surfeit of wit and good humor -- whaling was a cold, difficult, and ugly business even after the arrival of mechanization. Lloyd set up this resounding collection with the assistance of long-time associate ...
| | Kingston Trio Live At The Crazy Horse CD (1994)
Other Side album
$13.39 Recorded live at The Crazy Horse Steak House & Saloon, Santa Ana, California.
This may be the latter-day Kingston Trio, but two of the original members -- Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds -- are here, along with 20-year veteran George Grove, and they do sound very good. Interspersed with the expected classic group repertory -- "Hard Ain't It Hard," "Three Jolly Coachmen," "Chilly Winds," "Sinking of Reuben James," "The M.T.A.," "Worried Man," "The Reverend Mr. Black," "They Call the Wind Maria" -- are relatively recent addition to their song list, including a very poignant rendition of ABBA's "The Way Old Friends Do" (which is done in memory of Dave Guard and the other departed members of the Kingston Trio family) ...
| | Jonathan & Charles Another Week To Go CD (2004)
Other Side CD music
$11.59 Forget Simon & Garfunkel. Virginia's Jonathan & Charles were a poor -- make that destitute -- man's Chad & Jeremy or Peter & Gordon. Take the more painfully precious quirks of those otherwise engaging duos, then strip away the top-shelf songs and dry English drollery (but not, oddly, the accents), and finally, add trite Bible-school pieties -- for every time one of the aforementioned acts sang "love" substitute "Jesus" -- and you basically have Another Week to Go, an album that seems determined to single-handedly stem the tide of sexual perversity during the Summer of Love with its vanilla-flavored virtue. Ironically, this must have been a middle-class parent's wet dream, folk-pop as Sunday-morning sermon, music that wants to have it every way at once -- to be hip and with it, man, but also devout, radical yet conformist, straight-shooting but still groovy. As a result, it more often tends to sound comically earnest; after all, anyone who could quaver the line "Jesus was a pretty good guy, so they tell me" just wasn't hearing himself. On a surface level, the record does have its charms. While decidedly derivative in almost every aspect, it is undeniably pretty nonetheless, crayon-colored psychedelia ...
