Though not as critically revered as label-mates Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder, the Supremes were the most popular Motown act of the 1960s. Not only did the group rack up a string of #1 singles, that, in terms of frequency and quality often rivaled that of the Beatles, they were one of the first black combos in America to truly achieve mainstream white acceptance.
In many ways, the Supremes' music represented the Motown sound distilled to its essence; Hitsville USA's throbbing bass, relentlessly danceable drum beats, and ingenious arrangements were never so purely and perfectly geared for maximum pop appeal as on early hits such as "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Stop! In the Name of Love." On later, edgier tracks, like "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and "Love Child," the Supremes managed to adapt to the changing times without losing fans. Of course, even the Supremes' massive success couldn't match the superstar status garnered by their lead singer Diana Ross, with her definitive pop-soul classics such as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Endless Love." I have to say Universal/Motown is pulling out all stops on this one. It features all the classic's #1's by Ross, Wilson and Ballard........and Ross individually. The sound is extremely clear, the background vocals by Wilson and Ballard are pushed up a notch or two (where they should be) and there are some extended and alternative fade endings on the Supremes recordings. This CD release is clear....it's intended to show once and for all that the SUPREMES, Ross, Wilson and Ballard and Ross individually are the all time number one female groups and stars of all time. There's even a 70's Supreme classic (sans Ross) with Jean Terrell, Wilson, Birdsong..."Stone Love" simply incredible. Run and buy this class CD......Let's make sure the girls get to number one status on the charts in 2004. Like the Beatles and Elvis......they deserve the honor.

I enjoy listening to The Supremes. Florence is my favorite. I enjoy the Supremes songs such as "Love is Here And Now You're Gone," "The Happening" and "Come See About me" and I Enjoy Diana's solo recordings like "Touch me In The Morning" and more. I hope Diana Ross, Mary Wilson & Cindy Birdsong will come together again!

This is the BEST collection of Diana Ross and the Supremes that has every come out. If you grew up listening to Diana and stuck with her as the years went by, this is the definitive collection CD that you want to have playing in your car as you drive! Pop it in when you have the girls over for drinks and let the memories roll on!!!
