This well-selected compilation presents many of pop/rock singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow's finest tunes, including "All I Wanna Do" and "Everyday Is a Winding Road."
One of those rare talents who bucked the jinx of winning the Best New Artist Grammy (which she snagged in 1995), Sheryl Crow accrued an impressive canon over the span of a decade. Starting with this Missouri native's twangy, Rickie Lee Jones-flavored 1993 smash "All I Wanna Do," Crow has made her mark with songs such as the forward-looking "Every Day Is a Winding Road," the pleading ballad "Strong Enough," and the Beach Boys-flavored summer anthem "Soak Up the Sun."
This former in-demand session musician's talents also found her going down a country path by way of a classic duet with Kid Rock on the ballad "Picture," which rubs shoulders with the wonderfully atmospheric "Home" and the put-up-or-shut-up sentiment of the life-loving "If It Makes You Happy." Fans who are looking for new material get rewarded with two versions of Cat Stevens' "The First Cut Is the Deepest," one with a vintage Rod Stewart-like arrangement and a country version, featuring steel guitar. Also included is "Light in Your Eyes," a gentle mid-tempo nod to the late George Harrison.
Features bonus material.

Q (1/04, p.132) - 3 stars out of 5 - "A canny mix of tomboy retro rock, looped beats and sharp pop hooks made Crow one of the staples of '90s radio." Very Best Of Sheryl Crow album
$11.49 This 2004 collection features romantic hits that Phil Collins personally chose from his extensive solo catalog, including the emotive "Against All Odds," the pleading "One More Night," and the gentle "You'll Be in My Heart." However, there are also obscure tunes found here, and ...
| | Billy Joel Piano Man CD (1973) England
Very Best Of Sheryl Crow CD music
$17.45 The title track from Billy Joel's major label debut, 1973's PIANO MAN, became a smash hit, and put the singer-songwriter/piano player on the musical map for good. A story-song, the verses consist of character sketches given by the resident musician at a bar-lounge, and these build toward a sweeping, melodically infectious chorus, and a melancholic, carnivalesque refrain. The tune demonstrates Joel's flair for narrative and lyrical detail, as well as his unmistakable knack for a catchy hook--qualities that would be the bedrock of his ...

Joel's songcraft is evergreen, and his way with an infectious pop melody ...

| | Elvis Costello Live At Hollywood High/The Costello Show Vol. 2 CD (2010)
Very Best Of Sheryl Crow album
$11.16 Originally released as a four-song bonus EP with the U.K. edition of Armed Forces, then excerpted with an additional six songs on Rhino's double-disc expansion of said album in 2002, Live at Hollywood High received a full-blown reissue in 2010, almost 32 years after the June 4, 1978 concert from Elvis Costello & the Attractions. As the second installment of the Costello Show archival series, Live at Hollywood High isn't as legendary as Live at the El Mocambo, which had the benefit of once being one of Elvis Costello's rarest records, but it's a better show, or at least a better indication of the Attractions at their absolute peak. Apart from ...
| | Badlands Dusk CD (1999) (Import) Japan; Germany
Very Best Of Sheryl Crow CD music
$22.05 DUSK is a 10-track release by metal group Badlands, featuring the tracks "Healer," "Sun Red Moon," and "Fire Lasts Forever."
Dusk is Badlands's third and final album. It was originally recorded in 1992-1993 as a demo to submit to their label. In an interview on the Racer X site, Jeff Martin talks about Dusk: Dusk, or the tunes put on the album, were intended as demos for the next Badlands album after Voo Doo Hwy. We had worked up that group of tunes at rehearsals at Mates in North Hollywood two months before recording them at Good Night L.A by a friend of Ray's, Shea Baby. It's all 24 track full studio recording, but we did it all in less than 6 to 8 hours. We put the Mic's up, made sure ...

| | Keane Hopes And Fears CD (2004)
Very Best Of Sheryl Crow songs
$12.05 Often compared to countrymen Coldplay and Radiohead, the UK-based trio Keane plays a similarly majestic, sweeping blend of pop-informed rock music. Fueling the comparisons is the fact that lead vocalist Tom Chaplin makes heavy use of the same kind of Jeff Buckley-esque falsetto and emotion-filled wails favored by Chris Martin and Thom Yorke. On HOPES AND FEARS's epic tracks such as "She Has No Time," however, Keane takes the more dramatic elements of the aforementioned bands' sounds and magnifies them, creating piano- and synthesizer-driven cinematic soundscapes dripping with quiet heartache and existential angst. In addition, Keane incorporates minimalist trip-hop beats, which, in combination with Chaplin's strong pop melodies, evoke a male-led Portishead jamming with the Raspberries. One of the most sonically atmospheric groups of the Britpop scene, Keane ignores the notion of traditional guitar-based rock music in favor of something altogether quieter, yet equally as intense.
The English music press can never let anyone be. They're always quick to hail the next big thing and, in this case, the next big Coldplay is Keane. Lowgold briefly held that title upon its debut release in 2001, but U.K. critics rushed to give that crown to someone else just because that's what they like to do. Keane didn't ask for it, but perhaps it's the overall majestic presentation of the band's debut album, Hopes and Fears, that does it. That and the fact that the Sussex trio doesn't rely on a formula of lilting melodies and feverish guitars to carry the weight of the album. Keane haven't positioned themselves to be kings of anything, let alone the next Coldplay. They sound nothing like Chris Martin and Co. Sure, Coldplay's biggest hit to date, "Clocks," included only pianos, and they released the Safety EP on Fierce Panda, which is also Keane's label, but those are the only things Keane have in common with Coldplay. Alongside their beautiful, emotive dalliance of instrumentation is ...

| | Bennett Hammond The Rockafolky Banjo Tapes CD (2008)
Very Best Of Sheryl Crow album
$12.69 Bennett Hammond was picking and yodeling folk songs at the age of twelve, learned about old time, blues and bluegrass in highschool, started playing guitar professionally in college. Never too late: he started playing the banjo at 60. About The RockaFolky Banjo Tapes: THOUGH we don't remember the '60s, we do agree that there was such an over-cooked, herb-rolled and patchouli-dipped Epoch. But in their own beer-battered way, the '50s were raunchier and more revolutionary than the '60s, and no one now admits that the Grey Flannel Decade ever even happened. FOURTH of July, 1957.* Barry Manlynow jams his skin-head banjo onto a motorcycle-driving rhythm guitar, sends the vocal out the exhaust manifold, and calls the rebel rumble RockaFolky. Perl "Lonesome" Mee's fretless adds a sizzling BBQ sound, and Floco de Nieve puts a pirate mumbo-Gumbo into it. ONE BY one, "Charcoal" Bree Kay's inscrutable Native menace, the Southern-fried twin brothers Gole and Pick deLochs, ...
