Following a game plan in which each member of Destiny's Child temporarily takes a stab at a solo career, SIMPLY DEEP represents the second such project. Unlike Michelle Williams's gospel-pop crossover HEART TO YOURS, SIMPLY DEEP finds Kelly Rowland using an R&B base as a springboard to flexing her stylistic muscles. "Dilemma," a summer 2002 smash Nelly duet based on Patti Labelle's timeless "Love, Need And Want You" served notice on the radio and charts that Beyonce Knowles wasn't the only major talent in DC. Throughout these 14 cuts, the Atlanta native continually impresses, particularly with skills as a ballad singer on the gorgeous "Heaven," opening number "Stole," and Quiet Storm-ish "Haven't Told You."
Other highlights include the swirling "Simply Deep," a duet with Beyonce's little sister Solange that allows Rowland to pour on the vocal melisma a la major influence Whitney Houston. Balancing out these mellow moments are the bouncy "Past 12" and soaring, ethereal alterna-soul of "Train On A Track." Less effective is the bonus "Make U Wanna Stay," a plodding hip-hop-flavored duet with Joe Budden that doesn't find its principals synching up in an effective manner.

 Twinkle, Twinkle............ She's the Star
Alot of people are going to ask who the hell is he ? I have to say this,
Kelly needs to stop riding on Beyonce's
tail- really. She has a great voice and when it comes down to who really can sing, well need I say more. Kelly is the real star, she's my favorite since I've seen all four original girls in concert my heart has always been with Kelly and I wish her all the luck of a solo career.

Kelly is a great R&B singer and there were a few tracks that I fell in love with but overall it was just alright but when she makes her 2nd one i'll still buy it.

When is Kelly going to wake up and realize IT'S TIME TO GET A NEW AGENT? DESTINY was FULFILLED (pun intended) the minute Beyonce launced her solo career shaking her butt and going blonde! I didn't buy Beyonce's CD, I bought Kelly's after I fell in love with "Dilemma". Give it a listen and you will shake your head as I did, wondering why all the hype over one and the total lack of marketing for real talent. Kelly shines in her first debut. You must check out the songs they didn't even air. "Past Twelve" is a hot dance number that should have shot up the charts but I have yet to hear it on the radio. "Love Lives In Strange Places" is another one that with proper management would have been a hit. Kelly, take care of number one. You'd better believe Beyonce will!
