Marques Houston's career began at a rather tender age when, under the nickname Batman, he was one third of the pre-teen (and later teen) group Immature, which scored a Top 10 pop and R&B hit with "Never Lie." Nearly a decade later, the once precocious crooner, aged 22, finds his Immature linemates LDB & Romeo wishing him good tidings on the intro of his solo record MH. Houston makes it fairly clear from the outset that he's all grown, coming on strong on opening track "Clubbin'" as he implores "ladies show me love" as he sets up the seduction scene. He puts the exclamation point on his maturity as a dancehall beat pumps in and Jermaine Dupri and the So So Def Crew drop by on "Pop That Booty." However, Houston makes it clear on the very next track ("That Girl") that he still knows how to plant the smooth-love groove. The rest of the album remains in a soulful grind somewhere between Luther and Stevie, making MH one solid debut record.

$10.45 (MP3 Available for Download) This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
In the year leading up to the release of his third disc, CHICKEN & BEER, Ludacris' distinguished drawl could be heard all over the radio on commanding guest appearance after guest appearance, most notably on Missy Elliott's smash "Gossip Folks." Not that he needed any more airplay--his first two major releases already had the Georgian rapper well established as one of the most accomplished Dirty South crossover acts.
CHICKEN & BEER is an apt title for the ravenously hungry record with few moments of sobriety, as Ludacris unleashes his most gentle of furies. In "Southern Fried ...

Fresh off a 2002 GRAMMY nod for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Jagged Edge once again brings plenty of harmonies and attitude on its fourth outing, HARD. Working with a coterie of producers that include So So Def founder Jermaine Dupri, the men of JE continue down a path that's equal parts thug and lover. Making like Boyz II Men with swagger, these Atlanta natives easily shift gears from silk-sheet-and-champagne ...
| | G-Unit Beg For Mercy CD (2003)
MH CD music
$11.15 (MP3 Available for Download) Queens rapper 50 Cent ascended to the pinnacle of the hip-hop world in 2003, and the latter part of the year saw his crew, G-Unit, drop by with their own ubiquitous single "Stunt 101" and debut record, BEG FOR MERCY. Far from an entourage cashing in on one member's immediate success, the success of both 50 Cent and G-Unit is more of a chicken-and-egg situation. Since 1999, G-Unit's mixtape moments have been among the most sought after on the streets, helping to pump up 50 Cent's status until he exploded onto the mainstream.
Unsurprisingly, BEG FOR MERCY delivers a blistering attack of street rap that survives on its own merits. While 50 Cent opens the show on "Poppin' Them Thangs," he quickly blends into the mix, as G-Unit features two other more-than-able lyricists equal to the ...
