(3 Customer Reviews)
All the musical signposts in Megadeth's history are acknowledged, from KILLING IS MY BUSINESS up to and including their more recent studio offerings. The production captures the raw yet refined essence of Megadeth that keeps them a viable force in metal. If new fans find a striking resemblance between songs such as "1,000 Times Goodbye," the more obvious "Mechanix," and early Metallica, they should remember Mustaine's influence as a founding member of that group; for it is the stuff of legend.
This returnable CD/DVD combo pack features Megadeth on the road in 2001, performing fan-selected sets with their top hits. Material is the same on the CD & the DVD.
As forefathers of speed metal, it is a wonder that it took Megadeth 17 years to release a live album. Interest in the band has seen a resurgence, due in part to Dave Mustaine and company's return to form with 2001's THE WORLD NEEDS A HERO. Plans to record RUDE AWAKENING in Argentina had to be rethought (and switched to Arizona) as a result of the tragic events of September 11th. Metallist skeptics who mourned the super-technical vacancies left by Nick Menza and Marty Friedman (often touted as the strongest Megadeth drummer and guitarist respectively) will find their doubts squashed by guitarist Al Pitrelli (Savatage/Widowmaker) and drummer Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper), both formidable live players.
Megadeth: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar); Al Pitrelli (guitar); David Ellefson (bass); Jimmy DeGrasso (drums).
Q (May 2002, p.118) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...This double live set suggests a renaissance....with the 24 songs voted for by fans, there are plenty of surprises..." Megadeth Rude Awakening Songs Rude Awakening Music Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) Album Cover mimicks a scene from the "Enter Sandman" video If Dave still wants to beat Metallica at their own game, why did he adopt the "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude when selecting a cover for the album? Megadeth plays their songs live in exactly the same fashion as they do their record their songs in the studio. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Submitted by a person (the U.S.A.) Was it Live?! While I liked the setlist & the line-up was tight on this one. The record was flat, you'd figure they would have taken the route of their contemporaries & "tweaked" with the recording in the studio? I don't know what it was, but the crowd wasn't really into it & the band, seemed to be giving it their all... Could it have been the Sept. 11th have something to do with it? Were people not ready to have fun again?! Or was it that Mega-Dave was in Lapse mode at that the of the recording? Who knows? I will say that I would only recommend this show to the die hards... Rude Awakening CD music
$8.15 After guitarist Dave Mustaine was booted out of Metallica in 1983, he immediately returned home to San Francisco and formed Megadeth. The new outfit was instantly compared to Mustaine's former band, and the comparisons haven't subsided since. Whereas both outfits shared such musical elements as muted guitar riffs and speedy rhythms, Megadeth's first album seemed to be more influenced by punk and hardcore. KILLING IS MY BUSINESS AND BUSINESS IS GOOD also saw Mustaine's ...

$11.49 I was excited when Blue Note Records offered me a contract in 2001. Blue Note Records released my CD 'Melange' in August 2001 a month before 9-11. This was a difficult time for many artists around the world due to the overwhelming tragedies. The 'Melange' CD sales did not go well during this time of grief, but this did not stop my dream of being a bandleader. My manger was Hitomi Kakuda. She arranged a two-week tour in Japan and a Rising Star tour in Germany. The tours were successful and my group became known to many in Japan and in Europe. I did not ask for assistance from Blue Note Records during these tours. I wanted to display what I was willing to do in order to present my music and my group. Everything seemed to be going well until Blue Note Records decided to discontinue my contract in 2002. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I was very pleased with the amazing musicians in my group and wanted to record a live CD with hope to gain another recording deal. My group for this CD consisted of many great musicians; Marcus Strickland, who was still in college attending The New York School of Music. Jeremy Pelt, I first heard him performing at Berklee College of Music while I was on tour with Cassandra Wilson. I heard wonderful things about George Colligan from Gary Thomas years ago. I contacted Nathaniel Townsley because my original drummer Lionel Cordew was not available. We had a startling sound.I decided to record two live CDs, 'Lonnie Plaxico Group Live At The Zinc Bar' in New York and 'Lonnie Plaxico Live At The 5:01 Jazz Bar' in Columbus Ohio. I started my own record label, Plaxmusic after receiving letters of rejections from other labels. I released 'Lonnie Plaxico Live At The 5:01 Jazz Bar' in August 2002. I also made a video of that performance and Village Records in Japan was impressed by it, and offered me a contract which resulted in two recordings. These recordings were 'Lonnie Plaxico Group Live at the Jazz Standard' (2003) and 'So Alive' (2004). Sirroco Records also saw the video of the 'Lonnie Plaxico Live at the 5:01 Jazz Bar' performance and offered me a contract. I recorded one CD entitled, 'Rhythm and Soul' in January 2003. ...
