Black & White; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack Spanish; Academy Awards; Director's Comments George Stevens' life-altering experience of witnessing the death camps after WWII was doubtless responsible for his desire to adapt the famed diary of the teenaged Jewish girl, played by Millie Perkins. With the feared 'Green Police' or Dutch Gestapo combing Amsterdam in search of Jews, Anne, her parents, Otto (Joseph Schildkraut) and Edith (Anna Huber) another Jewish family, the Van Daans, and a dentist Albert Dussell (Ed Wynn) take refuge for two years in a small attic provided by Gentile shop owners Kraler (Douglas Spencer) and Miep (Dody Heath). Despite their precarious situation, and the sense of claustrophobia created by having to live together in such crowded conditions, covering the windows during the day, and keeping as quiet as possible at all times, the families carry on as best they can. For Anne, her platonic romance with Peter Van Daan (Richard Beymer), the attractive son of often voluble parents, makes the experience more bearable than it is for the adults, whose sense of foreboding is palpable. By surrounding the inexperienced Perkins with a talented cast of veteran performers, which also includes Shelley Winters and Lou Jacobi, Stevens achieves a moving portrait of Frank's innocent precocity, with her ultimate fate the tragic subtext of this intensely compelling film. Shot in widescreen.
Additional cast: Gusti Huber (Mrs. Frank).

Diary Of Anne Frank Video Diary Of Anne Frank Movie Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Profound! I watched this movie as a little boy when it was broadcast periodically by one of the one of the TV networks. I didn't fully understand it then, but recalled being quite moved even as a youngster. Watching it again for the first time in thirty years, now with a broad understating of WW II and the tragic events during the holocaust, it had a profound impact on me as well as my wife (who had never seen it)! All I could think of was that this movie clearly portrays why freedom is so valuable and why we are so willing to fight for this precious but fragile right. First time buyer from CD Universe. Very happy experience. Submitted by tommy1de (Baltimore, MD) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
Emotional and touching Since I haven't read the book, there's no way I can tell if the movie stands up to the expectations or not, however what I can say for sure is that this movie is really emotional and touching.
Due to the nature of the story, the movie has been filmed in a "theatrical" way, meaning that the camera rarely shows something else than the house interior. This fact seemed to affect the actors to the best, because the performances are simply amazing.
Overall, for 2+ hours that the movie lasted I allowed myself to live with the Franke family inside a small annex in Amsterdam during World War II. It was fun and touching at the same time, however the end of the film could have been more dramatic. Submitted by krikri (Crete, Greece) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Diary Of Anne Frank film
$15.44 NORTH BY NORTHWEST is a suspense thriller that finds Cary Grant in the role of Roger Thornhill, a Manhattan advertising executive mistaken for a spy. Considered by many to be the prototypical pure action movie (creating the template for later James Bond and Indiana Jones films), the film is a cross-country roller-coaster ride with Alfred Hitchcock at the helm. The film is duly famous for several classic and indelible scenes, including the desert biplane encounter and the Mt. Rushmore climax. The original title was THE MAN IN LINCOLN'S NOSE, which was replaced by a reference to a line from William Shakespeare's HAMLET (in which Hamlet says, "I am but mad north-north-west."). The magical combination of Hitchcock and the debonair Grant--who made four wonderful films together--makes NORTH BY NORTHWEST a suspense-filled standout.
When Thornhill finds himself in the wrong place at the ...

$21.25 Based on the real-life events surrounding a military-style drug raid on the poor, predominantly black housing project of Arlington Springs, director Tim Disney’s AMERICAN VIOLET shines an unflinching spotlight on the shameful racial profiling practices of a corrupt district attorney in a rural Texas town. The raid, which occurs after a tip by a single informant (a former mental patient bullied by the police to name names), targets among others Dee, a single mother of four with no prior drug charges (excellently played by newcomer Nicole Beharie). When the defendant assigned to her case tries to pressure her into a guilty plea in exchange ...

She has an affair with another woman, Ruth (Jane Halleran), and when her affair becomes common knowledge, she finds herself shunned by both her friends and family. Released shortly after a handful of films touching upon homosexual relationships (MAKING LOVE, PERSONAL BEST), LIANNA is a realistic depiction of a lesbian relationship that does not succumb to typical Hollywood formulas. Director John Sayles traces the consequences ...

Diary Of Anne Frank review
$10.29 This rousing spectacle from Dreamworks follows Sinbad (Brad Pitt) and his band of pirates, who rob and pilfer their way through ancient times. Naturally this rogue will be redeemed, and the wheels go into motion when the Book of Peace, a hot property guarded by his good friend Proteus (Joseph Fiennes) and wanted by Eris, the evil goddess of chaos (Michelle Pfeiffer), winds up stolen. Sinbad is sent on a journey to return the book to its rightful owner, which means sailing to the uncharted waters of Eris' kingdom, through oceans laden with monsters and dangers at every turn. Stowing away for the ride is Proteus' beautiful and spunky fiancée Marina (Catherine Zeta Jones). Her presence allows for plenty of bickering and tortured romance in between the suspense and action-packed set pieces, which involve (among other things) tentacled ...
