Standard Screen; Soundtrack English An entertaining adaptation of the best-selling, controversial Grace Metalious novel set in a small New England town. Although everything seems picture-perfect in Peyton Place, there are actually many troubles brewing within the town including infidelity, illegitimacy and rape. Among the many memorable characters we meet are Constance and her defiant daughter Allison, who finds out, much to her shock, that she's an illegitimate child. Then there's Selena Cross, who has a tense relationship with her alcoholic stepfather, a school caretaker who eventually rapes the girl and continues abusing her -- until it leads to murder. The lives and love lives going on behind closed doors in a small New England town create a sizzling saga of passion and scandal. Academy Award Nominations: 9, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress--Lana Turner, Best (Adapted) Screenplay. The film was made into a very successful and popular television series in the 1960s, starring Mia Farrow and Ryan O'Neal.

Peyton Place Movie Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) *A GREAT Drama with GREAT Acting* I just got this movie today, and being a Lana Turner fan I was SO excited to see this movie. When I finally popped it into the DVD player I was stunned by the beauty of this film. Not only was the acting and actors BRILLIANT but the picture quality was magnificant. Lana Turner's character as a mother with an illegitamate child stunned me and the rape of Hope Lange's character shocked me. Back in the fifty's censors were placed on movies with sex and violence. Surprisingly when this movie was shot the sexualy explicit dialogue and violence were kept in making it a GREAT unforgetable movie.
WATCH IT!! :) Submitted by Maresa (Key West, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Drama at its Best! 20th Century Fox could always pick the right stories to film and this was no exception. Naturally dated today - especially where values are concerned - the unfolding drama between the characters and the place they live in is an enjoyable escape and when you consider the book is based on a real town and people... well! Has all the right ingredients to make it one of the top films of that era and I believe a timeless classic if you are in to good drama and acting! One of my firm classic no. 1's. 20 yr memory Peyton Place was a movie you would never forget. The actors their talent. The intensity of relationships. The secrets and what the consequences were. I can't believe I saw this movie when I was pretty young - 20 years later I thought of this as a movie for my collection. A movie I could watch over and over, never be bored. $9.69 John Ford's memorable screen version of John Steinbeck's epic novel of the Great Depression--often regarded as the director's best film--stars Henry Fonda as Tom Joad. After having served a brief prison sentence for manslaughter, Joad arrives at his family's Oklahoma farm only to find it abandoned. Muley (John Qualen), a neighbor now nearly mad with grief, tells Tom of the drought that has transformed the farmland of Oklahoma into a desert and of the preying land agents who have plowed under the shacks of the sharecroppers. Joined by former hellfire preacher Casy (John Carradine), Tom finds his extended family, including Pa (Charles Grapewin) and his indomitable Ma (Jane Darwell), packing their ramshackle truck to seek work in the fields of California. As the family treks across the country, their dissolution begins with the deaths of Tom's grandparents at close intervals. When they arrive in California, the Joads find only an abundance of poverty-stricken migrants like themselves and little in the way of potential work. Yet, ever resilient, they ...

$6.99 Based on the cult British television show from the 1960s, THUNDERBIRDS explodes into the 21st Century with this thrilling live-action version of the franchise. Drawing on similar themes and familiar characters, director Jonathan Frakes (STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT) sticks closely to the spirit of the original show while making use of the new technology available to him 40 years after the program first aired to give the film a modern look. The International Rescue organization--a team of highly organized law enforcers--is the focal point for the movie. International Rescue is based on a remote desert island location, and is called into action whenever the world's sinister masterminds threaten to disturb the balance of society. Jeff Tracy (Bill Paxton) heads up the team, and employs his sons to help him out. Teenager Alan Tracy (Brady Corbet) is a little too young to join, and is constantly frustrated by his lack of opportunity to join the brothers on their missions. But when the evil villain known as The Hood (Ben Kingsley) traps the International Rescue team in outer space, it seems Alan's time has come. The Hood steals one of the many spacecrafts designed by International Rescue, and executes an outlandish scheme to rob the Bank of England. Alan and his pal Fermat (Soren Fulton) attempt ...

With this talent she can stalk her victims and kill them before they are even aware of her presence. Even so, she is haunted by the memories of her youth, when as a small girl she witnessed her mother's brutal murder by a mysterious horned enemy. When a mission leads her to a father and daughter, Mark (Goran Visnjic) and Abby (Kirsten Prout), something deep inside her causes her to abort the assassination.
