The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Greatest Hits is a compelling listen, culling tracks from the band's 1989 breakthrough, Mother's Milk, to its melodic 2002 release, By the Way. In some ways, one could view this as the best of the John Frusciante years, charting most of the band's work with the talented guitarist after the death of original member Hillel Slovak. The tracks here are all hits, including such stellar singles as "Give It Away," "Under the Bridge," and Frusciante's first single after his phoenix-like resurrection from heroin addiction, "Scar Tissue." It should be noted, though, that as a Warner-issued hits collection such fan favorites as "Taste the Pain" and the touchstone antidrug anthem "Knock Me Down" -- both from the 1989 EMI release Mother's Milk -- aren't included. (Similarly, nothing from the Chili Peppers' rambunctious early efforts -- including 1984's Red Hot Chili Peppers, 1985's Freaky Styley, and 1987's The Uplift Mofo Party Plan -- appears on this hits collection.) Nonetheless, Greatest Hits still portrays the band as one of the most consistently brilliant groups of its generation. Helping to paint this picture are such solid cuts as the group's searing, albeit overplayed, 1989 cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" as well as its rarely available addition to the Coneheads movie soundtrack, "Soul to Squeeze." Not surprisingly, "My Friends" is the sole cut to make it from the band's disappointing one-off effort with Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, One Hot Minute. Throw in two new tracks ("Fortune Faded" and "Save the Population") that easily match the quality of the material collected here, and you've got one of the most consistently listenable Chili Pepper releases since Blood Sugar Sex Magik. For fans who gave up after Frusciante left the band, Greatest Hits is the perfect reintroduction. ~ Matt Collar The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Greatest Hits is a compelling listen, culling tracks from the band's 1989 breakthrough, Mother's Milk, to its melodic 2002 release, By the Way. Great collection of RHCP songs. I bought this collection of greatest hits because I love the RHCP. I already had the By The Way album as well as Stadium Arcadium. I also knew the songs from Californication which is my favorite RHCP album. But I needed to have the other great songs from Blood Sugar Sex Magik which has some of my favorites including Under the Bridge, Give It Away, and Suck my Kiss. It also has the other very good songs Soul to Squeeze, and Fortune Faded. If you love Red Hot Chili Peppers then you should own this greatest hits. obviously good...but could've been so much better! the chilis second hits collection album (the other being "what hits!?") and this is definitely more accessible than the other one. unfortunately for me, this doesnt necessarily mean its a better collection. mostly from "californication" and "by the way" which are good albums but where are all the hits from the so under-rated "one hot minute" ("aeroplane" "coffee shop" etc). also i really disagree with the choice of putting their biggest hit "under the bridge" (a wonderful song) at the start...should've been a closing track i think. good album with all good songs...but this could have been so much better. | | Very Best Of The Stray Cats: Rumble In Brixton CDs (2004)
Greatest Hits
$13.45 2cds.1st Official Live Release W/ 1 Brand New Studio Track.
Stray Cats: Lee Rocker (bass instrument); Slim Jim Phantom, Brian Setzer. Personnel: Brian Setzer (vocals, guitar); Lee Rocker (vocals, background vocals); Slim Jim Phantom (drums, background vocals). Audio Mixer: John Holbrook. Liner Note Author: Tommy Maguire. Recording information: Brixton; The Village Recorder. Illustrator: Vince Ray. Photographers: Boris Baggs; Tommy Maguire. This rather short double-disc package documents the British dates of the re-formed 2004 Stray Cats, specifically one show in Brixton. The 22-song set includes all of their big hits, a handful of logical if intriguing covers ("Ubangi Stomp," "My Baby Left Me," "That's All Right," "Good Rockin' Tonight," and "Twenty Flight Rock"), and even a new studio track, the trio's first original composition in a decade. Although the band hadn't played together in a while, all of the members have stayed busy and their chops are as sharp -- if not sharper -- than in the old days. Additionally, England is where they first made a popular splash, so they are obviously thrilled to be back on their old stomping grounds, adding to the edgy sense of excitement in the performance. Most of these concert renditions are hotter and hence arguably better than the previously recorded counterparts, and the Cats' manic enthusiasm bursts ...

Greatest Hits
$14.79 SHUND began the summer of 2006 in Van Buren, MO. Drummer Heath Grassham and Guitarist Brad Pool had played music in the area for years but did not get together until that summer. Musical roots run deep in the rural community they grew up in, so it was just a matter of time before they crossed paths. The first time Heath and Brad jammed they were very comfortable, and have been playing together ever since. Heath began playing drums seriously at the age of 10 with great influence and support from his father Randy Grassham. He started by playing everything from Patsy Cline to CCR. He progressed into playing alternative and funk music, such as Pearl Jam and The Red Hot Chili Peppers with other local musicians. Brad began playing guitar also at the age of 10, inspired by family members who played country music. Brad would sit in at jam sessions and play by ear to his mother's cd collection of southern rock and 80's music. He grew into playing classic and modern rock, such as Van Halen and Nickelback with friends from school. When Brad and Heath began their search for a lead singer they found James Jacoby who had the style and drive they were looking for. James grew up up in Deming,Washington, just a short ...
