One of the most astute followers of bebop titan Charlie Parker was and still remains alto (and tenor) saxophonist Sonny Stitt. One of the most popular acolytes of Art Tatum (possibly the most incredible pianist ever) was and remains Oscar Peterson. Put them together and you have the makings of a classy, enduring, and simmering session of straight-ahead jazz. Recorded in 1957 and '59, SITS IN features bass ace Ray Brown and the superb swing/bop guitarist Herb Ellis. All are modern jazz masters with a thorough grounding in the verities of swing. | Sits In With The Oscar Peterson Trio Music Sits In With The Oscar Peterson Trio Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Oscar and Sonny!!!! Jazz Masterpiece!!!! A MUST HAVE ONE!!!! np4. Submitted by najponk (Stuffakov) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 4 of 4 found this helpful.
Simply the Best Why this recording went out of print is a mystery. It represents some of the best Sonny Stitt ever with a marvelous rhythm section. Recorded in France in 1959, Stitt, age 35, was in great form. One can't go wrong on this one! Submitted by Robert (Mahomet, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Ooooo-ha! A GREAT CD - one of the top 3 in my Stitt collection. If you're a Stitt fan, you GOTTA have this one. Submitted by saxfiend (Burbank, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$14.15 Highpoints include the Junior Wells solo track "Keep Your Hands Out of My Pocket," which is a terrific showcase for his distinctive harp style (he has a deliberately cleaner tone than the other three) and the opening "Down Home Blues," which is a sort of cutting ...
| | Johnny Hartman Unforgettable CD (1995)
Sits In With The Oscar Peterson Trio CD music
$10.99 Recorded in Los Angeles, California between February 15, 1966 and September 28, 1966. Originally released as UNFORGETTABLE SONGS BY JOHNNY HARTMAN on ABC-Paramount (574) and I LOVE EVERYBODY on ABC-Paramount (576). Includes liner notes by Will Friedwald.
From the first swinging cadences of "Almost Like Being In Love"--as the singer's lush virile baritone soars above Gerald Wilson's fat, brassy big-band chart--it's clear that producer Bob Thiele was pulling out all stops to establish Johnny Hartman as a vocal icon (a la Frank Sinatra, Billy Eckstine and Nat "King" Cole). But for all the obvious signposts and inspirations, the main impression listeners will take away from UNFORGETTABLE is what a singular, original stylist Johnny Hartman was.
Listen to how the trombones complement Hartman's smoky baritone on "The More I See You." Even when he's attacking a pop-styled chart such as "What Do I Owe Her," Hartman's phrasing is pleasingly horn-like; yet he manages to convey a subtle feel for the beat without descending into ostentatious techical displays. On "Down In The Depths" he displays a real flair for Broadway-styled theatrical ...

Sits In With The Oscar Peterson Trio music CDs
$7.05 Set in a small town in upstate New York, YOU CAN COUNT ON ME looks at a brother and sister who grew up together as orphans but now face life with very different perspectives. Sammy (Laura Linney) works at the local bank. Most of her attention goes into raising her 8-year-old son, Rudy (Rory Culkin), and drifting in a tepid romance with Bob (Jon Tenney). The first disruption to her dutiful routine arrives in the form of new bank manager Brian (Matthew Broderick), intent on whipping his employees into shape. Then Sammy's wayward brother, Terry (Mark Ruffalo) shows up after a long absence, and her happiness quickly turns sour when she realizes he has only come to ask for money--again. But with all the elements for a backwater soap opera in place, the story instead becomes a subtle portrait of good intentions and fractured relationships.
First-time director Ken Lonergan was already a noted Hollywood screenwriter (ANALYZE THIS), but ...

Sits In With The Oscar Peterson Trio songs
$17.89 In this dark French thriller directed by Olivier Assayas, Connie Nielsen (GLADIATOR) stars as Diane, an ambitious corporate climber. As Diane ruthlessly cuts down her rivals, she finds herself negotiating an important deal with the imposing Hervé Le Millinec (Charles Berling) and the producers of hi-tech, pornographic Japanese anime films. Eventually, her subversive business techniques lead her into the decadent and mysterious world of "The Hellfire Club," an interactive torture and S&M website. Can Diane maintain control of her increasingly shadowy and confusing situation? And can she continue to eliminate her opponents before they eliminate her?
With DEMONLOVER, Assayas has created a film that is immersed in the seedy and corporate elements of early 21st century pop culture--a ...

Sits In With The Oscar Peterson Trio songs
$7.65 Volume One, released earlier in 2000, was Everclear's sunniest, most pop-oriented, and instrumentally varied album. Volume Two, on the other hand, is closer to alt-rock business as usual, a heavy guitar album with leader Art Alexakis as lyrically cheesed-off as ever (and brilliantly so--not for nothing did Randy Newman announce that Alexakis was his current fave songwriter).
Put the two halves together and what do you have? Well, a modern equivalent of the Beatles White Album isn't as far-fetched as it might seem. This is a band clearly at the top ...
