Minor Threat played one of its last shows at Washington DC’s 930 Club in June of 1983; they would only play once more in DC. Two years later, the tapes from the 930 show were edited together and Dischord Records released them as the Minor Threat Live VHS video in 1986. Along with the 40 minute 930 performance, the DVD includes a 35 minute video of a 1982 Minor Threat show in Camden, NJ, a 12 minute clip of Minor Threat’s 2nd ever show (!) at DC Space in December 1980, and excerpts from a 1983 interview with the vocalist, Ian MacKaye. DVD includes 16 page booklet featuring a brief historical essay by Mark Jenkins (Dance Of Days, Washington Post), photos, song titles and lyrics. Their carefully selected name, Minor Threat, perfectly captures their attitude -- that non-threatening rage against the culture of adults and authority, the frustration at their own ineffectuality to turn anger into major change. Ian MacKaye (to many, the God of punk rock) was only a teenager when he and his friends formed the seminal D.C. punk band Minor Threat, but his idealistic and loud brand of youthful rage created an entire movement. Ian-penned lyrics to songs like "Screaming at a Wall" and "Out of Step" capture the volatile alienation of punk rock perfectly, while "Straight Edge" -- a tirade against the degrading effects of drugs and alcohol -- pioneered an entire subculture. Minor Threat's visceral energy and palpable rage is perfectly captured on this live video release. Filmed at the legendary (to punks, at least) D.C. Space in 1980, Ian and the boys perform eighteen of their loud, fast classics. Minor Threat - Live film
$10.65 The Washington, D.C. straightedge hardcore punk scene began with Minor Threat. The band recorded two LPs on its own Dischord label, plus an EP and the miscellaneous singles that are collected on this CD. Many of the early recordings on this collection seethe with teen-age angst and indignation. The songs rage against bullies, religious hypocrisy, and the herd mentality.
Other songs, taken from later in Minor Threat's career, feature tighter and more sophisticated playing. Metallic flourishes tinge the guitar work, vocal harmonies abound, and song dynamics vary more than on the earlier record. On certain songs, Ian MacKaye's lyrics address the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and self-expression. "Look Back and Laugh," "Little Friend," and "It Follows" all incline more toward introspection and ambiguity; conveying loss and sadness in addition to outrage. This second set of songs seems to especially anticipate MacKaye's later work with Fugazi. The album also contains a few playful numbers like the sing-along cover of "Stepping Stone," and "Cashing In," a mocking ...

$15.49 Washington, D.C. hardcore punk band Fugazi are the true innovators who are revered by young iconoclasts everywhere. Vocalist-guitarist Ian MacKaye, who also fronted the seminal punk band Minor Threat, is an ideological hero to many--his anti-major label stance and belief in a DIY, independent music scene continues to be an inspiration. Since their formation in 1987, Fugazi's remarkable "career" has been tracked on film by photographer-turned-filmmaker Jem Cohen, himself part of the local punk scene. INSTRUMENT is a collection of Cohen and Fugazi's audiovisual collaborations; shot over a period of 10 years on Super 8, 16mm, and video, the film is a visually stunning ...
| | Social Distortion Sex, Love And Rock 'N' Roll CD (2004)
Minor Threat - Live movie DVD
$10.89 A major force in West Coast punk since the early 1980s, Social Distortion became the longest-lasting of their peers, with perhaps only Bad Religion for company. Through a daunting history of ups and downs, drug problems, personnel shifts, and worse, the band soldiered on fearlessly, never sacrificing the righteous fury of their sound. Following a layoff of eight years (during which time singer Mike Ness pursued a solo career), SEX, LOVE AND ROCK 'N' ROLL was the group's first foray into the studio since the death of founding guitarist Dennis Danell in 2000.
With longtime bassist John Maurer and the revitalizing power of a new guitarist and drummer, Social Distortion maintains the lean, propulsive punk attack that made them famous. While the group's trademark sound is a Ramones-meet-Johnny Cash punk/country amalgam, the twangier leanings are largely left behind here in favor of a more straightforward--still characteristically unrelenting--rock & roll approach. Beyond that, the biggest new development is the pop quotient. While SD was never a stranger to ...

Minor Threat - Live film
$20.15 A remake of an older anime series of the same name, SHADOW SKILL updates its predecessor's basic action/fantasy premise with a much lighter tone. In the kingdom of Kuruda, the mighty band of martial-arts warriors known as the Sevalle are king. While young Gau dreams of one day joining the group's hallowed ranks, his older sister, Elle, is already a highly skilled Sevalle member. The trouble is that Elle is a hard-drinking party girl who would rather engage in booze-fueled antics than train her younger brother in the Sevalle's mystic ways. Produced by the acclaimed animation studio DEEN, the high-octane anime series continues with this collection of episodes 18 through 21.
The annihilation of the Holy Nation has begun, and flames engulf the ancient city of Kuruda. All eyes are on Elle, for a maniac versed in the Kurudan ...
