Jimmy Barnes album Product Description
Artists from bands like Journey and Fleetwood Mac guest on this 1985 self-titled solo outing from former Cold Chisel frontman Jimmy Barnes. Here's an album that asks the musical question--how many Bryan Adams clones does one country really need? Doubtless Australian Jimmy Barnes comes by his rock & roll heart honestly, but hooking up with the likes of Jonathan Cain (the Babys, Journey, Bad English), he's making standard-issue corporate designer rock here just emotive enough to stir things up without obscuring those backup vocals by Kim Carnes. (Okay, sometimes he doesn't sound like Bryan Adams. Sometimes he sounds like Sammy Hagar instead. ) The answer to the question: One less than Geffen Records was hoping. ~ William Ruhlmann Digitally remastered edition of the Australian vocalist's 1985 self-titled solo album. Jimmy Barnes was originally the lead singer in Aussie Hard Rock band Cold Chisel. Leaving in 1983, he pursued an amazing solo career and gained a massive worldwide following. ...See Full Description

| BARNESY GETS IT RIGHT After leaving Cold Chisel in 1983, Oz rocker Jimmy Barnes ventured into a solo career that recently saw him inducted into the Australian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His self-titled album was his first release in Australia, although it was released under a different title in the US. This album contains crowd favorites "I'd Die To Be With You Tonight," "Ride The Night Away," and "Second Prize." Song #3, "Working Class Man," was written by Jonathan Caine (of Journey) for the Ron Howard movie Gung Ho. In Australia, however, the movie was released with the same title as the song, and "Working Class Man" became the unofficial Australian anthem. I dare you to find an Aussie who does not know it by heart. For those of you who do not recognize his name, he sang "Simply The Best" with Tina Turner and "Good Times" with INXS (from The Lost Boys soundtrack). It is a shame that Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes never made it big in America. We have been robbed of a generation of great music. By Harlan (Lexington, KY, USA) |
