Although it may be a little bit too much for casual fans, Hits is an excellent set that contains all of Jimmy Barnes' hit singles, several album tracks, his hit duet with INXS ("Good Time"), several B-sides and a handful of outtakes. For collectors, all of the rarities are worthwhile, even if they reveal no hidden gems. For less dedicated listeners, the rarities bog down the set slightly, but this remains the definitive overview of this blue-collar Australian rocker. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Fridge always presents some interesting music on its records; the only problem is that they tend to be a bit inconsistent. From the brilliant early LP Semaphore to much more obscure projects like Indisguise, a joint venture with D, the band is constantly pushing the limits of electro-instrumental music. EPH continues this trend but, in the end, is less fascinating than previous releases. There are certainly highlights, and the album grows more interesting with repeated listens, but it still comes up a bit short. The album's bookends, "Ark" and "Aphelion," are quite good, as are the shorter "Meum" and "Tuum." Unfortunately, the rest of the album is weighed down by all-too-similar songs. ...

ATARI TEENAGE RIOT 1992-2000 spans the near decade-long career of the infamous Berlin electro-punks. Initially formed as a reaction to the growing neo-Nazi influence in Germany's rave scene, Atari Teenage Riot's confrontational anti-fascist political agenda influenced a new generation of D.I.Y. techno producers to embrace punk's ethic of harder-faster-louder, signaling teenage rebellion's paradigm shift away from three-chord punk to computer sequencers.
If A.T.R.'s industrial-strength noise blasts and breakneck BPMs sometimes lack subtlety, leader Alec Empire's razor-sharp production helps to lend a stark clarity to the anarchic proceedings. Tracks like "Deutschland Has Gotta Die" and "Delete Yourself" pair distorted breakbeats over angry chants from vocalists Hanin Elias and MC Carl Crack.
