| | Hank Williams, Jr I'm One Of You CD Hank Williams, Jr Discography of CDs
(9 Customer Reviews)
2003 album features 11 tracks including the hits 'I'm One Of You', 'Devil In A bottle', 'American Offline', 'Liquor To Like Her' & more. Curb Records.
In 2003, when country had long since become the province of radio-ready pretty boys with a sound as polished as their profiles, Hank Williams, Jr. seemed all the more refreshing for maintaining his unrepentant outlaw country approach. The production on "I'm One of You" is as rough-and-ready as the songs, brimming with dirty, twangy guitars and bad-ass attitude. His inclusion of 1960s and '70s compositions by Jerry Reed ("Amos Moses") and Joe South ("Games People Play") is practically a public service in the age of paint-by-numbers Nashville. For that matter, Williams's "political" song "Why Can't We All Just Get a Longneck" (surely the best song title of the year) has a light-hearted honky-tonk approach that's infinitely preferable to Toby Keith's contemporaneous jingoistic excesses. And when Hank Jr. lays into a self-penned, obviously heartfelt tribute to a certain recently deceased outlaw country pioneer on "Waylon's Guitar," his roots become all the more admirably apparent.
Personnel: Hank Williams, Jr. (vocals, guitar); Chris Leuzinger (acoustic guitar, dobro); Brent Rowan (acoustic, electric guitar & baritone guitar); Reggie Young, Brent Mason (electric guitar); Pat Buchanan (slide guitar); Larry Franklin (fiddle); Joey Miskulin (accordion); Jimmi Hall (saxophone); George Tidwell (trumpet); John Jarvis (piano, Hammond B-3 organ); Steve Nathan (Hammond B-3 organ, synthesizer, clavinet); Jimmie Bones (distorto Hammond B-3 organ); Joe Chemay (bass); Paul Leim (drums); Eric Darken (percussion); Wes Hightower, Ann McCrary, John Hobbs (background vocals).
Rolling Stone (11/27/03, p.94) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Williams sounds pretty damn vital here. Anchored by a meaty guitar sound, Williams turns out Southern party anthems rollicking enough to make his papa proud." | | Hank Williams, Jr Almeria Club CD (2002)
I'm One Of You CD music
$6.35 The Almeria Club was a hard-edged, Alabama honky-tonk that was the site of a hot-tempered 1947 incident that became part of the lore of Hank Williams. More than 50 years later, Hank Jr. recorded an album in that very same notorious joint as a tribute to his father's rebel reputation. In keeping with the down-home theme, the production is agreeably raw and rootsy, bouncing from rockabilly ("Go Girl Go") to jump blues ("If the Good Lord's Willin'") and the ZZ Top-like blues-rock (the salacious double entendre "Last Pork Chop") that is a staple of Hank Jr.'s work. In keeping with his image as a flag-waving Charlie Daniels-like figure, Williams caps off the album with "America Will Survive," a post-9/11 anthem of transcendence that is ironically one of the least country-flavored tunes on the album.

| | Hank Williams, Jr Hog Wild CD (1995)
I'm One Of You album
$5.95 Hank Williams, Jr. sure loves to have a good ol' time. He parties with his friends for "Monday Night Football," and rollicks with his buddies in just about any honky tonk that'll hold him. So, there's no reason to think that he would mellow out on an album entitled HOG WILD. There's some serious boisterousness going down on this disc. Hank himself sets the standard on the western-flavored "I Ain't Going Peacefully" when he says "Garth and Clint and Alan, them boys got it made/...tryin' to put me in the shade." There's also humor when he adds: "Garth said he's made more money...than his grandkids could ever spend/Well, my ex-wife spent what I had, that makes me one fightin' mad man..." In a cross-pollination of styles, one wonders if this is the kind of bravado that rappers are best known for. But Hank's not totally ornery; he does pay a sentimental tribute to an idol, Waylon Jennings.
For the most part, though, snarlin' Hank takes his own special brand of rowdabilly over the top, and HOG WILD becomes a country album with something for everyone. Williams is still crying in his beer, singing odes to motorcycles, rednecks, ...
| | Hank Williams, Jr A.K.A. Wham Bam Sam CD (1996)
I'm One Of You CD music
$5.85 A.K.A. WHAM BAM SAM is one of Hank Williams Jr.'s best albums, with a nice balance between his traditional rowdy good old boy hellraiser schtick, and some genuinely sensitive, at times even shockingly musical moments. Speaking of the former, the funniest thing here, hands down, is the opening "Don Juan D'Bubba." A take-off on the then-current ...
