2 stars Prokofiev is my personal Fave, buuuuuttttttttt..........
This CD of two of Prokofiev's less played ballet music are very well performed by Michail Jurowski conducting the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Koln. BUT even a great job by the musicians and recording technicians cannot make a silk purse from a sows ear!! Much as I love Sergei P. this really is mediochre music. For the completist only, and then highly recommended. Musicmensch

5 stars 80 years ahead of his time
I've been listening to some late 20th and early 21st century scores of late and am still amazed as to how Prokofiev anticipates much of what goes for "modern music" but he did it so much better. Listen to these works, they are truly breath-taking.

Rosa LamoreauxĂ˘âŹâsopranoĂ˘âŹâhas been hailed for her versatile musicianship, her radiant, engaging, and effortless singing, the diversity of her repertoire, and her many fine recordings. After winning the Handel Aria Competition at the Aspen Music Festival and an honor as finalist in the Oratorio Society Competition of New York, her career has taken her to the Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and the Kennedy Center, among others. She has been soloist with the Atlanta Symphony and the Cincinnati Symphony and has won critical acclaim for her performances at Bach festivals in both the US and Europe. Recent and up-coming performances include Gloria by Handel at Grace Cathedral San Francisco, Shostakovich 14th Symphony with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, St. John Passion of Bach at the Washington National Cathedral, BarberĂ˘âŹâ˘s Knoxville Summer of 1915 with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, and recitals at the National Gallery of Art. Concert appearances have taken her to many venues in both the United States and Europe. This versatile musician has worked as a coach/accompanist for more than 20 seasons at the Washington Opera, and has been involved in recent years in the musical preparation of many operatic works for a variety of conductors, including Elektra, Salome, Turandot, Simon Boccanegra, Tristan und Isolde, Parsifal, Der Rosenkavalier, and Die WalkĂÂźre under the baton of Music Director Heinz Fricke.
