Puck and his friends live in an uninhibited world, peacefully rebelling against the system, until the ominous arrival of Johnny Black. Armed with "The Anarchist Cookbook", Johnny conjures up recipes for madness and chaos, manipulating the group's non-violent protests and ideologies to escalate to destructive and dangerous acts. Stars Devon Gummersall, Gina Philips. Inspired by the legendary 1960s radical handbook of the same name, this debut film from director-screenwriter Jordan Susman tells the coming-of-age story of a group of friends living in a slackerish, anarchist commune in Dallas, Texas. The film is narrated in voice-overs from the film's antihero, the group leader, Puck (Devon Gummersall). Puck is a genius college dropout who inspires the group with a relatively low-key, utopian view of radical existence. Together with pranksters Double D (Steve Van Wormer) and Sweeney (Johnny Whitworth); sexy swinging feminist Karla (Gina Philips); and aging hippie Johnny Red (John Savage); Puck rails against globalization, Starbucks, and other stereotypical anticapitalist concerns. Their idea of anarchy is primarily about freedom and fun; more peace than protest. That is, until their commune is invaded by newcomer Johnny Black (Dylan Bruno), a nihilistic anarchist who favors a more violent, guerilla-warfare approach. Toting explosives, Johnny Black turns Puck's peaceful utopia upside down. Black's influence sets off a series of violent events, which land Puck in his hometown of Plano, Texas under house arrest. Once there, he meets and falls in love with Jody (Katharine Towne), a sexy Young Republican. Together with Jody, Puck plots the downfall of Johnny Black in a darkly comic and satirical finale. | | Gram Parsons Complete Reprise Sessions CDs (2006) Remastered; Boxed Set
Anarchist Cookbook film
$24.29 Taking the place of the obligatory cd two-fer of GP and GREVIOUS ANGEL, Gram Parsons's THE COMPLETE REPRISE SESSIONS covers it all and then some for Grampires of all stripes. Produced by Emmylou Harris and Parsons cohort James Austin, this beautifully designed three-disc set includes one disc devoted to each solo record and a third featuring outtakes from each album's sessions. With fewer overdubs and Gram and Emmylou's vocals front-and-center in the mix, the final disc brims with the emotive soul and earthbound angelic vocals the two perfected. Among the final discs many highlights are looser alternate takes of "She" and "Streets of Baltimore" from GP and a "Hickory Wind" unadorned by the ridiculous fake crowd noise that mars the GRIEVOUS ANGEL version. The latter is the best and most stirring recorded performance of Parsons's signature song and alone worth the box's sticker price. Other features scattered on the first two discs include radio interviews (with Parsons's southern hippie charm in overdrive); captivatingly raw acoustic performances with him, Harris, and drummer N.D. Smart; and an instrumental version of "Return of the Grievous Angel" that reveals just how ace a country band the Waycross longhair had.

He gets derailed when a Santa Monica businessman, Alan Stanwyk (Tim Matheson), mistakes him for a homeless man and offers him $50,000 to commit a murder.
