Timeline, Richard Donner's 14th century France time-travel debacle, has been plagued by strife since its not so humble, big-budget beginnings. After the departure of original composer Jerry Goldsmith, the studio -- which was already losing money -- decided to go with relative newcomer Brian Tyler. Tyler, who has done excellent work on the horror films Frailty and Darkness Falls as well as the obscure rockabilly, kung fu, road-trip movie Six-String Samurai, is definitely game for the adventure. His score is spirited along by the need to impress and the enthusiasm of just doing it at all. This is stirring, manly battle music with a memorable motif that echoes The Lord of the Rings composer Howard Shore's "Rohan" theme. He deftly handles love scenes with grace and dexterity, never falling victim to the horrific ten-minute swells perfected by contemporaries like James Horner and the aforementioned Goldsmith. While much of the blustery horns and taut, squealing strings would be just as comfortable in a television miniseries, the composer inserts moments of quiet majesty and melody with the precision of a future Oscar contender. ~ James Christopher Monger Timeline Soundtrack Music Timeline Soundtrack Songs | 1. | Main Title |

Sure, this terrific soundtrack from the 1981 animated cult favorite features heavy metal and hard rock numbers. But the title refers to National Lampoon's sci-fi/fantasy magazine on which the film is based. Musically, Heavy Metal offers ...

"A Long Walk" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Though start-up label Hidden Beach and its manufacturer/distributor Sony may have been hoping for another Lauryn Hill in this eloquent young African-American from a Middle Atlantic state, Jill Scott turns out to be something of a hip-hop Patti Smith, a street poet who, on her first album, hasn't quite made the transition from spoken word performances to music, despite an excellent singing voice. With any luck, she will retain her sense of the power of words, since the best parts of this album are the ones when she lets fly, drunk on her verbal virtuosity. Producer Jeff Townes (of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince fame) and his team of associates from the A Touch of Jazz production company set up sympathetic musical ...
