| | Wyclef Jean Greatest Hits CD Wyclef Jean Discography of CDs
International edition of 2003 compilation features 24 tracks including 1 bonus track on disc one, 'No Woman, No Cry' (Fugees), along with a limited edition bonus disc, with the first pressing, featuring 7 tracks, 'Gone Till November' feat. Canibus (Remix), 'Guantanamera' (Remix), 'Perfect Gentleman' feat. Xzibit & King Yellowman (Remix), 'We Trying To Stay Alive' (Remix), 'It Doesn't Matter' (Remix), 'No Woman, No Cry' Fugees (Remix) & 'It Doesn't Matter' feat. Jacky & Ben (Ca Ne Me Fait Rien). Columbia.
Since dropping THE CARNIVAL, his first solo record outside the umbra of the Fugees, to critical acclaim in 1997, Wyclef Jean has consistently created intriguing music, constantly experimenting with different styles and collaborating with unlikely artists from various genres. Jean's debut broke out with the insistent Bee Gees beat of the party anthem "We Trying to Stay Alive," but buried in the folds was the sublimely beautiful, heartfelt ballad "Gone Till November," which would go on to become an unlikely top 10 pop hit. The former song referenced Bob Dylan in its lyrics, while the video of the latter featured a cameo of the folk hero, an unlikely influence that manifested itself on every Wyclef record, leading to a subdued cover of the Dylan's eulogic "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." Surprisingly sincere rock covers have been a hallmark of Jean's career, and none are more improbable or impressive than his mostly-straight-with-a-twist-of-reggae interpretation of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." On the other hand, a single listen to his hit with movie/wrestling icon the Rock, "It Doesn't Matter," reminds one that 'Clef also knows exactly how to get the party started. This GREATEST HITS collection features all of these tracks and many more by Wyclef, a pioneering performer who's continually expanded the boundaries of hip-hop.

$9.99 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful ...

| | Beyonce I Am...Sasha Fierce CD (2008) Bonus Track; Deluxe Edition
Greatest Hits music CDs
$9.99 I AM. SASHA FIERCE represents another change of pace for Beyoncé. Unlike the relatively streamlined, retro-soul inflected B'DAY, I AM... is a sprawling two-disc set designed to reflect two conflicting sides of Beyoncé's musical personality. The first disc sports reflective, sometimes moody ballads, while the second, attributed to Beyoncé's brash alter ego, Sasha Fierce, is loaded with propulsive dance-floor fillers. Except for this stylistic divide, I AM. pays only nominal attention to its supposed concept, focusing instead on a set of excellent, radio-ready songs--neatly avoiding the possibility of I AM. becoming some sort of Chris Gaines-style conceptual disaster. Though the second disc, which boasts the synth-drenched lead single, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," ...

Greatest Hits album
$10.79 Missing in action for much of the 1990s, Stevie Wonder is a living legend whose consistent creative output is sorely missed. THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION provides a snapshot overview of Wonder's stellar legacy starting back in 1963 as a teen musical prodigy with the exuberant "Fingertips Part 2." This jubilant tune, showcasing Wonder's much-touted facility on the chromatic harmonica, ...

| | Bill Evans Last Waltz CDs (2000) Box Set
Greatest Hits music CDs
$79.79 Recorded live at Keystone Korner, San Francisco, California from August 31-September 8, 1980. Includes liner notes by Todd Barkan and Derk Richardson.
Digitally remastered by Joe Tarantino (2000, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
In the wake of a sampling from Bill Evans' last gig that came out on Timeless a while back, here are eight more CDs from those concerts - the last of which occured exactly a week before Evans' death in New York City at age 51. The location was San Francisco's Keystone Korner, and club owner/now-producer Todd Barkan kept his tape machine rolling throughout the nine-day gig. Despite some tape hiss, the sound is full and clear - much better than that of The Secret Sessions at the Village Vanguard. If there are any physical signs of impending death, you cannot hear them in Evans' playing. All of his technique and stamina is intact (hear the flawless, rapid right-hand runs on "Someday My Prince Will Come" on Disc Five), his harmonic imagination right on course, indeed inspired in several patches, and each night's work is quite even in overall quality. There is, however, an autumnal feeling throughout the set, and there are few, if any, startling surprises in the by-now well-worn repertoire. "Nardis" is played no less than six times, usually at great length. The final "Nardis" of his life Sep. 8 lasts nearly 20 minutes; as he explains on Disc Three, he continued to find new things in that tune to the end, though it is somewhat disfigured by a useless, overlong drum solo. Most of the time, his young sidemen from the period, Marc Johnson (bass) and Joe LaBarbera (drums) are very supportive. This set confirms what Warner Bros.' Turn Out The Stars box - recorded three months before - indicated, that Evans' last months on this planet produced a lot of prime vintage music, even though the pianist was merely reprising and refining a direction that had been set in stone long before. There are apparently enough well-heeled members of the Evans cult out there to support this expensive proposition - this was the sixth blockbuster Evans box to emerge on the shelves - but non-cultists might be happier with the single disc of highlights from Turn Out The Stars as a souvenir from Evans' last days. ~ Richard S. Ginell
This eight-CD box set documents Evans' performances at his eight-night stint at the San Francisco Keystone Korner club in the late summer of 1980; he would die about a week after the final show on September 8. Accompanied by Marc Johnson on bass and Joe LaBarbera on drums, he runs through no less than 65 performances, most of them standards, and also including ...

Greatest Hits album
$12.79 For progressive hip-hop acts, aesthetic and commercial success seem to rarely walk hand in hand. Blackalicious proves to be an exception to that rule with BLAZING ARROW. Pessimists might suggest that the album's chart placing is due to the impressive array of guest stars, from old-school rap poet Gil Scott-Heron to R&B siren Jaguar Wright and rock-pop fave Ben Harper. While these guests do give an indication of the breadth of influences and styles present here, they are only the tip of the iceberg.
"I'll build my heaven on what is here" Blackalicious offers on "Nowhere Fast," giving both an example of their positive lyrical outlook and ...
| | Johnny Desmond Complete Early Sides CD (2002)
Greatest Hits CD music
$13.89 Compiled on The Complete Early Sides are 18 tracks featuring vocalist Johnny Desmond, many of which are available on CD for the first time. Desmond's refined vocal style -- which earned him the nickname "The Creamer" -- was a highlight of several noteworthy big bands. His first high-profile gig was with Bob Crosby's Bob-o-Links circa 1940. In 1941 he joined Gene Krupa's orchestra, where he replaced Howard Dulaney. Then in 1944 Desmond became known as the "G.I. Sinatra" in Glenn Miller's renowned Army Air Force Band. This compilation focuses primarily on his contributions to Krupa's aggregate, with the exception of a pair of tunes -- "Bella Bella Marie" and "Lillette" -- which were cut with the ...
