Motown Milestones: Motown Meets the Beatles CD (1995)
Sound + Vision CD music UK compilation containing legendary Motown artists' interpretations of The Beatles' classics. When the Fab Four first got together, their sets consisted of American Rock and Soul covers. Once they began writing their own music, they still continued to cover these songs that influenced them, including some early Motown favorites. Ironically enough, Motown's brightest stars began covering The Beatles once they became household names. This collection features 17 fine examples of these Soul drenched reinterpretations of Beatles tracks including cuts performed by Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Jr. Walker & The All-Stars, Syreeta and others. Spectrum.
This is part of the Motown Milestones series.
Audio Remasterers: Dan Hersch; Bill Inglot.

Bob Brookmeyer Brookmeyer CD (1983)
Sound + Vision buy CD music Bob Brookmeyer leads two different big bands and an octet on a trio of 1956 sessions made for RCA Victor. Drawing from the vast array of talent in New York City at the time, the valve trombonist scored several standards and a host of originals for these dates. The snappy miniature "Oh Jane Snavely" says a lot about his talent in just over three minutes, while an extended workout of "Open Country" indicates why this piece became an important part of his repertoire and a favorite of Gerry Mulligan, too. His exotic scoring of "Nature Boy" includes both Joe Singer's French horn and Don Butterfield's tuba in a stunning chart. The brilliant voicings used in his interpretation of "I'm Old Fashioned" bring a new dimension to this standard, which still sounds fresh decades later. Brookmeyer shines whenever he takes an opportunity to solo, as do his fellow musicians. It is peculiar that the leader is listed as Bobby on this release, a moniker that does not turn up elsewhere in his vast discography. Although this album was reissued on LP by RCA in France during the early '80s, it is long overdue to appear on CD. ~ Ken Dryden

Vindictives Party Time For Assholes CD (1996)
Sound + Vision album for sale This would be AMG's pick for the Vindictives if it wasn't for the fact that there is not one original song on here. Party Time for Assholes is more of a concept record that was originally released as a double ten-inch that included nothing but cover songs. Not to say that this is a bad thing -- as a matter of fact, their versions of the Sonics' "Strychnine," Louis Armstrong's "Wonderful World" and the Vapors' "Turning Japanese," for example, are as great as the originals. And with over 25 songs to be found on Party Time for Assholes, there's no way that this record could not appeal to someone. ~ Mike DaRonco
First official release of this all-covers album from one of Chicago's snottiest punk acts. The entire thing's been remastered and has new artwork, making all those bootlegs worthless. 25 tracks, including remakes of 'Turning Japanese', 'Money Changes Everything', 'Rubber Bullets', 'Bike' and 'You May Be Right'. 1998 Liberation Records release.

Dan Garner Second Album CD (2008)
Sound + Vision songs Described as a singer/songwriter who paints a diverse sonic and lyrical landscape, showcasing a broad diversity of musical influences, Dan Garner is a veteran of the Blues Festival circuit as well as the Shreveport, Louisiana music scene, having played on practically every stage in the city, from clubs to casinos. His work has been compared to Nick Drake, Michael Franks, Paul Simon and Leonard Cohen meets Guy Clark. Dan was an apprentice for thirteen years to the late legendary pre-war bluesman, JesseThomas, recording and performing with him until Thomas' death in 1995. Dan played with Thomas in venues and festivals across the country, including the New Orleans Jazz Festival and the Long Beach Blues Festival. Living Blues magazine referred to Garner's work on the release of Thomas' "Lookin' For That Woman" as "well attuned." That description inspired the title for the Blue Goose Blues Records release of Dr. Cookie & Louisiana Dan's "Attuned To The Blues". Through various labels, Garner has produced eleven releases, which span the genres of acoustic blues, rockabilly and gospel. In addition to documenting some of the vanishing music traditions of Northwest Louisiana, "Louisiana Dan" Garner has also produced music for commercials and jingles in the Americana tradition. Currently Garner works for The Tipitina's Foundation of New Orleans and performs with Cookie & The Kingcakes, THE PATIO DADDY OS, The Velvet Swivel Rockers and as a solo singer/songwriter with a mission to keep the music traditions of Louisiana alive and well. He has recently contributed a chapter to the University Press of Mississippi's "Shreveport ...
