One of the leading Swing bandleaders and clarinettists Shaw was noted for his criticisms of the commercialisation of jazz. Over 12 Hours of Music
This boxed set is a steal - over 12 hours of music on 10 CD's for about the price of one CD. Overall, the sound quality is very good. Some of the older songs on the first disc or two have some some noticeable surface noise (from the source 78's) but apart from that the sound quality of the boxed set is fine and I had no problem cranking up the volume on most of the collection. There are many songs on the first 2 discs with Peg LaCentra vocals and if you like her distinctive voice that is a bonus. In any case, there is a ton of good music in this set (with and without vocals) that will appeal to any swing fan and many of the songs I don't think I've seen in the other compilations. There is no discography or liner notes included but each CD comes in an attractive cardboard sleeve with the song titles and times annotated on the back – all printed again for all 10 CD’s on the bottom of the box.

A musical treasure!!!
Begin the Beguine is an extraordinary album, from beginning to end, like all the pieces by the Arite Shaw Orchestra. This is classic americana that set the atmosphere for great times of prosperity in the U.S.: World War II, Post-War, Skyscrappers, Clark Gable and the American Dream.

awesome.all this music for so little. Why can't other box set be this cheap? You can' go wrong with box set of a great artist like a Artie shaw.
