| | Masta Killa Made In Brooklyn CD (2006)
Revolution Of Yung Havocs
$13.49 On MADE IN BROOKLYN, hip-hop heads get a chance to see just how far Masta Killa has come as an MC. Since his first appearance on "Da Mystery of Chessboxin," Killa was noted for his stylistic similarities to the GZA. From the late '90s on, his flow has evolved into one of the most understated deliveries in hip-hop--a chillingly straightforward minimalist monotone. MADE IN BROOKLYN is a solid effort, thanks ...

| | Roger Troutman Zapp CD (1980)
Revolution Of Yung Havocs
$7.59 Released in 1980 just as George Clinton's P-funk empire had reached the brink of its existence, Bootsy protégé Roger Troutman proved himself a worthy successor with Zapp's self-titled debut album and its subsequent two follow-ups. In actuality, Zapp originally was a branch of the Parliament/Funkadelic collective, as group leader Roger Troutman was originally signed to Clinton's short-lived CBS subsidiary, Uncle Jam Records. After Troutman completed the album with CBS' money, Clinton's help, and Bootsy's production, Warner Bros. stepped in, offered Roger a considerable sum of money, and slyly bought the album -- leaving a distressed Clinton with no Zapp album for his shaky boutique label. Propelled by the dancefloor smash "More Bounce to the Ounce," the album quickly became a considerable hit. It was here that Troutman first defined the vocoder-laden funk aesthetic that would become his trademark for the remainder of his career. In addition to the near ten-minute "More Bounce," the album also featured "Be Alright," another epic jam that slowed down the funk to a smoked-out, ...

| | E S G Screwed Up Movement CD (2006)
Revolution Of Yung Havocs
$12.75 Bringing something new to the game has never been what E.S.G. is about, so when the Southern rapper throws an ambitious word like "movement" into the title it could mean disaster. The man's a serviceable rapper, strong enough for the numerous club cuts that appear on Screwed Up Movement. Problem is, E.S.G. feels he has something to prove, and when boasting about his "movement" or cutting down the new kids for their lack of experience, the album falls flat and the thin, uninspired production can't carry it. The collaborations with Bun B and Chamillionaire ("Ride Wit Us") or Jae Millz ("Gangsta") offer some thrills, as does "Watch Yo Back," a diss directed at Slim ...
