British quintet Stampin' Ground specialize in basic, mosh pit-friendly hardcore-metal with no frills. Combining Reign in Blood-era Slayer with the tough-guy hardcore of bands like Hatebreed as well as a little Pantera-style macho attitude, they don't break new ground, nor do they really attempt to do so. They keep it (relatively) simple, focusing on sturdy songwriting rather than showy musicianship or complicated riffs. Song titles such as "Don't Need a Reason to Hate," "Bear the Scars," and "Pain Is Weakness (Leaving the Body)" sum up the band's m.o. fairly well -- better than the album title, anyway, since this music is more hostile and aggressive than "dark." This kind of music has a fairly specific audience, but fans of the above-mentioned bands and their more recent offspring will probably get some enjoyment out of this album. ~ William York

Songs like Bear the Scars and Dead from the Neck Up are definitly kickers! This is just another band of the what I call the New Wave of "Swedish Heavy Metal" . I wouldn't say the the best Cd I have ever heard but I would say Four Stars on a Five Star Scale. With Andy Sneap as Producer of this album who has produced bands such as Arch Enemy's Wages of Sin, Nevermore's Dead Heart in a Dead World, and Testament's The Gathering. This album doesn't lack in sound and production, my recommendation is to pick it up!!!

Total brutality...and then some! If what you're looking for is technical, fast paced, unrelenting thrash metal that will kick you in the face then look no further than Stampin Ground! This is a great album for fans of Slayer, Pantera, and Machine Head. No ballads, no cliched lyrics, just pure angry music here. Unfortunately, there are no guitar solos from this band, and that's kinda disappointing because this band sounds like they are quite capable of pulling some incredible solos if they could. Nevertheless, this album survives just fine without them, so pick this up now, and have yourself a mosh-fest! Submitted by megadeth1981 (Lakeland, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
New Darkness Upon Us CD music
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously ...

New Darkness Upon Us music CDs
$13.25 On Chimaira's second full-length album, THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF REASON, the Midwestern nu-metal outfit charges out of the gate with an electrifying mix of brutally direct Sabbath-esque guitars, the scariest death metal howls this side of Morbid Angel, and double-kick-drum patterns so fast and clean they make Slipknot's drummer sound like the guy who played on "Louie Louie." Unlike many of its ...

| | John Arthur Martinez Lone Starry Night CD (2004)
New Darkness Upon Us album
$11.55 John Arthur Martinez once sang George Strait songs in Texas bars, and Lone Starry Night follows the same neo-traditionalist country road. That means Martinez knows his country roots well, and draws from everything from honky tonk to Western swing to straightforward ballads, and that he leans closer to contemporary than alternative country. Both "The Man Who Holds the Bow" and "Home Made of Stone" rely on the time-honored practice of finding a slightly catchy metaphor to carry the weight of the song ("It ain't so much the fiddle, it's the man who holds the bow"). The problem with this approach is that many such phrases can sound like clichés before the ink dries. Martinez is more successful with "Amarillo By Morning," a gentle ballad relating hard-earned experience, and "A Girl Named Texas," a catchy bit of Texas jazz (Western swing). It's also nice that whether one listens to the quirky "The Armadillo Song" or the happy-go-lucky "Tonight at Fiesta," the guitars, steels, and fingerpicked acoustic guitar always come through loud and clear. Martinez is a soulful singer, ...
