| | Dirty Sanchez Really Rich Italian Satanists CD Dirty Sanchez Discography of CDs
Photographer: Ian Brown. Well, at least they didn't name it Rusty Trombone. Dirty Sanchez's debut EP doesn't scrimp on the sleaze -- it can't, because that's really the L.A. trio's only trick, besides the rudimentary buzz of neo-electro beats backing up this brief clutch of dirty jokes. "I'm on my knees/Then I'm on my back/And you're suckin' on my toes like you're smokin' crack"; "Look at you with my hand down your pants/Check you out gettin' f***ed while we dance" -- Sanchez mouthpieces Jackie Beat and Mario Diaz keep it trashy and simple, limiting their exhortations during "Dig It" and the novelty bump of "Fucking on the Dance Floor" to a middle-school bathroom graffiti level. Cheeky references to "Terri Nunn bangs" aside, the most interesting thing about Really Rich Italian Satanists is its potty-mouthed cover of Soft Cell's "Sex Dwarf." Its presence ties Dirty Sanchez's electroclash novelty present to the prurience of past fetishists like the Cell, Revolting Cocks, and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. ~ Johnny Loftus Well, at least they didn't name it Rusty Trombone. Dirty Sanchez's debut EP doesn't scrimp on the sleaze -- it can't, because that's the L.A. trio's only trick, besides the shallow puddle of neo-electro splooge it's doing the Running Man in. "I'm on my knees/Then I'm on my back/And you're suckin' on my toes like you're smokin' crack"; "Look at you with my hand down your pants/Check you out gettin' f***ed while we dance" -- did Sanchez mouthpieces Jackie Beat and Mario Diaz just recently learn how to swear? Because their exhortations during "Dig It" and the novelty bump of "Fucking on the Dance Floor" are at middle-school bathroom graffiti level. Really Rich Italian Satanists is a flaccid recast of My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult and Soft Cell prurience over beats bought at Larry Tee's electroclash yard sale. Everything must go. Really Rich Italian Satanists
$12.79 After 19 years, Grace Jones finally releases a new studio album, and it's a weird one, nostalgic and timeless in equal measure. Her collaborators (including Brian Eno, Tricky, Wendy & Lisa, Sly & Robbie, Tony Allen, and others) set up instrumental backdrops that explicitly recall not only her own early-'80s albums, but also those albums' influence on the later work of Massive Attack, Tricky, et al. At the same time, Jones' old lyrical persona -- ...
| | Pet Shop Boys Yes CDs (2009) Limited Edition
Really Rich Italian Satanists
$18.59 Few synth-pop outfits can boast the longevity and staying power of the Pet Shop Boys as demonstrated on their 10th studio album, YES. With its soulfulness and simplicity, YES manages to keep the duo sounding fresh while injecting a warmth too often lost in electronic music. While the album certainly doesn't break any new ground, the Pet Shop Boys' predictability is part of their charm since they long ago perfected the formula for the perfect dance anthem. Johnny Marr, ...

Really Rich Italian Satanists
$14.79 This is the accompanying CD to the book 1966! THE COOLEST YEAR IN POP CULTURE HISTORY by Hal Lifson. Compilation producers: Cary E. Mansfield, Hal Lifson. Includes liner notes by Hal Lifson. This is part of Varese Sarabande's "Vintage" series. Liner Note Author: Hal Lifson. Arrangers: Andrew "Mike" Terry; Fred Steiner; Billy Strange. Hal Lifson, one-time DJ for legendary KRLA in Los Angeles in the late '90s, has written a book, Hal Lifson's 1966, in which he takes a look at the culture and music of the year he calls the "coolest year in pop culture history." This disc is an audio document of that year. It includes radio commercials (the Yardbirds shilling for Great Shakes, a promo for the TNT show); themes to television shows like Batman, Star Trek, and The Newlywed Game; themes from movies like Our Man Flint and Time Tunnel; lots of cool memorabilia in the booklet; and great music. From the frat rock of "Double Shot of My Baby's Love" by the Swingin' Medallions to the insane garage rock of "Psychotic Reaction" to the ultra-pop of "You Baby" by the Turtles, America was rocking in 1966. (Britain was too, though not as much, since only the Yardbirds' ...
| | Joe Meek You're Holding Me Down CD (2007) (Import) France
Really Rich Italian Satanists
$15.75 Equally obsessed with exotica, outer space, spooky sounds, and just plain strange studio experimentation, 1960s British producer Joe Meek could range pretty far afield (just check out his compilation VAMPIRES, COWBOYS, SPACEMEN & SPOOKS: THE VERY BEST OF JOE MEEK'S INSTRUMENTALS). But Meek, considered Britain's answer to Phil Spector, also produced some fine R&B-derived rock music, much of which prefigured the British Invasion sound by several years. JOE MEEK'S FREAKBEAT: 30 FREAKBEAT, MOD AND R&B NUGGETS is a great place to sample Meek's big-sounding, hard-driving pop projects. With huge, booming sonics and a fair amount of echo, effects, and proto-psychedelic atmosphere, Meek keeps the beat in the foreground, making this comp an electrifying trip through early-'60s British rock. Joe Meek is most famous for the records he made in the early to mid-'60s, even the best of which usually matched futuristic, one of a kind production with quaint, silly (if sometimes quite catchy) tunes. This has led many critics to charge, with some justification, that trends were passing him by as British Invasion groups with grittier, more creative material overran the globe. It's sometimes overlooked, however, that he made quite a few records with the new generation of self-contained, tougher mod/R&B-oriented British bands in the final two years or so of his life, even if these experienced little commercial success. A whopping 30 such sides from 1964-1966 are assembled on this quite interesting and occasionally thrilling (if uneven) compilation. Generally, Meek was more restrained in leaving his heavy sonic thumbprint on these records ...
