WAITIN' FOR THE NIGHT features 10 tracks by the all-girl proto-punk band.
Cherie Currie's departure was a major loss for the Runaways, but it was hardly a fatal blow. The female hard rockers still had a gem of a singer in Joan Jett and a captivating guitarist in Lita Ford, and they continued to offer sneering, in-your-face rock & roll on their third album, Waitin' for the Night. This LP isn't quite as strong as Queens of Noise, but is excellent, gutsy, and inspired nonetheless. From the jaded "Little Sister" to the catchy "Wait for Me," Night proved that there was indeed life after Cherie Currie for the Runaways. Night did well in Japan, though in the U.S., the ladies of loudness still couldn't break through commercially. This band was definitely way ahead of its time, and it can't be stressed enough that everyone from Girlschool to Babes in Toyland, 7 Year Bitch, and L7 owes the risk-taking but underexposed Runaways a huge debt of gratitude. ~ Alex Henderson
Although by this time The Runaways had lost both Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox, it was by no means fatal as Joan Jett took over the lead vocals. With snarling vocals from Joan and in your face rock guitar from Lita Ford, this was a fantastic album from The Runaways. Tracks like the jaded `Little Sister' and the catchy `Wait For Me' proved there was plenty of life in the girls yet!! Critically acclaimed but never receiving their due, The Runaways were formed in Hollywood in 1975, with the help of music svengali / producer Kim Fowley, becoming the first all female rock and roll band to actually make an impression on the record buying public and musicians alike - although more so now than then! Respected in their day by bands such as Blondie and The Ramones, and now cited as a major influence by bands such as Courtney Love, Bikini Kill, L7, The Donnas and Babes In Toyland The Runaways time has finally come!

Waitin For The Night
$15.09 Of all the studio albums that the Runaways recorded in the late 1970s, And Now... The Runaways is the least essential. This isn't to say that And Now is a bad album; it's generally decent, if uneven, but it certainly isn't in a class with such gems as The Runaways, Queens of Noise ...

Because the Runaways were much better known in Japan than the U.S., it stands to reason that their only live album was recorded in that country. This hard to find LP was available in the U.S. only as a Japanese import and sold ...

| | Laura Nyro Gonna Take A Miracle CD (1971) Remastered
Waitin For The Night
$6.75 Recorded in 1971. Bonus tracks recorded live at Fillmore East, New York, New York on May 30, 1971. Includes liner notes by Amy Linden.
For Nyro, a native New Yorker who grew up on the sounds of girl groups and R&B, GONNA TAKE A MIRACLE was a return to her roots. While she made her name as a visionary songwriter on a par with Joni Mitchell or Neil Young, she was also a gifted interpreter of other people's songs. This is where she proved it, covering classic pop and R&B tunes like "Nowhere To Run," "Spanish Harlem" and "You've Really Got a Hold On Me." As she paid tribute to her influences, she was aided by the soulful backing vocals of LaBelle and the production of Philly soul masterminds Gamble and Huff.
With the 1971 release Gonna Take a Miracle, pop composer and vocalist Laura Nyro completed her four-album/four-year deal for Columbia. Nyro's passion for R&B can be traced back to some of her earliest compositions, such as "Wedding Bell Blues" and "Stoned Soul Picnic" -- both of which were covered by the R&B vocal quintet the Fifth Dimension. More recently, her version of "Up on the Roof" was one of the highlights of Christmas and the Beads of Sweat. So, enthusiasts who had paid any attention at all to the course of Nyro's career would not have been surprised by her direction on this project. As much as Gonna Take a Miracle is indeed a Laura Nyro album, it could likewise, and perhaps more accurately, be described as a collaborative effort between Nyro and the female soul trio LaBelle -- featuring Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash -- as well as producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. It is ultimately this team that is responsible for the album's overwhelmingly solid results. Leading off in an apropos style is a succulent cover of the Shirelles hit "I Met Him on a Sunday." The vocal performance is structured as a round -- with each woman singing a consecutive line. The song is rightfully returned to the street corner doo wop tradition from which it originated with the simplicity of unadorned vocals creating ...
