| | Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve From Steel Town CD (2007)
Drew's Famous Kids St. Patrick's Day Party songs
$10.15 LYNYRD SKYNYRD LYVE is an Enhanced CD containing both a full audio program and multimedia computer files.
Recorded live at The Coca Cola Star Lake Amphitheater, Burgettstown, Pennsylvania on July 15, 1997. Interviews recorded at Emerald Studios, Nashville, Tennessee.
This CD/DVD package, originally released in 1998, captures the Johnny Van Zandt-fronted Skynyrd live in Pittsburgh in all their rowdy good-ol'-boy glory. While the revamped line-up simply can't hold a candle to the original, not many bands ever could. Nonetheless, the newfangled Lynyrd Skynrd still know how to rip it up, as LYVE FROM STEEL TOWN makes amply clear. The band runs through new tunes and all the requisite favorites--including "Sweet Home Alabama," "Gimme Three Steps," and, of course, "Freebird"--for an audience as fired up as they are, making LYVE FROM STEEL TOWN a nice treat for die-hard Southern rock fans.
After reforming in the late-'80s with singer Johnny Van Zant filling in for his late brother Ronnie, Lynyrd Skynyrd decided to make the reunion a permanent proposition--and remained a solid concert draw. 1998's LYVE FROM STEEL TOWN showed that the band was still a force to be reckoned with, even though only three original members remained--guitarist Gary Rossington, bassist Leon Wilkeson, and keyboardist Bill Powell.
Johnny Van Zant does a splendid job of recreating his brother's tough vocals, as the group crank out solid versions of such past faves as "Saturday Night Special," "That Smell," and "Sweet Home Alabama." Newer compositions such as "We Ain't Much Different" and "Voodoo ...

| | John 5 Requiem CD (2008)
Drew's Famous Kids St. Patrick's Day Party CD music
$9.95 Since John 5 has gained acclaim from the A-list of guitar gods -- the Steve Vais, the Joe Satrianis, the Paul Gilberts, and the Yngwie Malmsteens -- you pretty much know what to expect with his solo albums: a total and utter shred-fest to show off his scorching chops. His fourth release, Requiem, is exactly that. It acts as a calling card to prove that he's a praiseworthy axemaster as he blasts through scales and exercises in blazing fury. Yes, he's fast enough to solo in front of Racer X, and yes, he can sweep classical-style arpeggios just like the curly-locked former leader of Rising Force. In fact, there's not much that he can't do with the guitar stylistically. Like his prior albums, he inserts chicken-pickin' country and down-home bluegrass in his set alongside metal macabre instrumentals, and ups the ante with a more adventurous playing technique and new and improved tricks. He certainly is an innovative soloist -- whether he's bending the string behind the nut, toggling pickups mid-slide, or hammering the pick on the fretboard -- but while a full album of mile-a-minute ...
