Swing Out album
$13.09 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl ...

| | Herb Alpert Whipped Cream & Other Delights CD (1965) Bonus Tracks
Swing Out album
$9.89 How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. With its unlikely combination of Alpert's cool Chet Baker-like trumpet and the blocky cadences of a marching band, the Tijuana Brass produced a lively, colorful mix that managed to appeal to hips and squares alike.
WHIPPED CREAM & OTHER DELIGHTS was Herb Albert's most successful album, helped--no doubt--by ...
| | Miles Davis Tribute To Jack Johnson CD (1970) Remastered
Swing Out CD music
$7.59 A TRIBUTE TO JACK JOHNSON was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a documentary on the life of the first African American heavyweight boxing champion, but the album stands on its own as one of the most brilliant, compelling fusion recordings ever made. This is due in large part to the increasing influence of rock and funk on Miles's aesthetic, to the superb musicians (including Davis himself-- who turns in some stunningly ...
| | Hank Crawford Soul Clinic/Blues Shout CD (1999)
Swing Out music CDs
$10.69 Includes liner notes by Ralph J. Gleason and Leonard Feather.
The labels "soul" and "blues" don't exactly tell the story on this reissue of a 1960 session by saxophonist/flutist Leo Wright and a 1961 date by alto player Hank Crawford. The Crawford set is actually a pleasant, Kansas City-influenced ...

| | Jazz Express Presents Autumn Moods: Warm Grooves For Colder Days CD (2004) Import
Swing Out songs
$10.55 What, pray tell, qualifies certain jazz songs as autumnal? It's a pretty murky premise to build a compilation CD around, although a couple of the song titles (Booker Ervin's "Autumn Leaves" and Hank Jones' "Summer's Gone") fit the concept. Whether this suits your fall mood or not, it's a decent if tenuously grouped anthology of tracks that, despite the "warm grooves for colder days" subtitle, would fit many listeners' conception of cool jazz, or cool jazz-indebted sounds. The majority of the 14 selections hail from the 1940s and 1950s, though some of the material was recorded in the 1980s, and some as recently as 2002. Jazz specialists probably won't have much use for a disc whose contents are so disparate and thematically vague, but casual jazz appreciators will enjoy it ...
