This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
Principally recorded live at The Louisville Palace, Louisville, Kentucky on April 29 & 30, 2002.
A key contributor to the popular upswing of bluegrass, Alison Krauss & Union Station found their stewardship enlarged even more with the explosive success of the O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? soundtrack. Now furthering the cause is LIVE, a 2-CD set that allows this gaggle of talented musicians to stretch and impress over the course of 25 songs. Recorded over 2 nights at the Louisville Palace in Kentucky, this set list is an interesting mix of old favorites, traditional fare and some fun covers.
Blessed with a shimmering voice that oftentimes is reminiscent of Dolly Parton's, Krauss' crystalline phrasing ...
| | Lucinda Williams World Without Tears CD (2003)
La Vache Qui Pleure
$12.05 WORLD WITHOUT TEARS was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. "Righteously" was nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
Though it's ultimately a less balladic, more stylistically varied album than its dreamy predecessor ESSENCE, WORLD WITHOUT TEARS starts out with a slow-burning, reverb-drenched ballad, but then takes a sharp turn into sensual lyricism, pounding drums, and churning guitar on "Righteously." For some time, the dominant topic of Lucinda Williams albums has been the edgy appeal of dangerous, often doomed men, and true to form there are plenty of those on WORLD WITHOUT TEARS. Witness the tragic anti-hero of "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings," the troubled guy with ...
| | Jim Kweskin Woman Alone With The Blues... Remembering Peggy Lee CD (2003)
La Vache Qui Pleure
$10.59 The always eclectic Maria Muldaur, whose previous albums have paid tribute to Shirley Temple and blues women of the '20s, takes another musical detour in this collection of songs associated with Peggy Lee. In addition to her cool, sexy, relaxed voice, Lee was arguably more talented than other vocalists from her era. As a songwriter she co-penned some of her own material, including the swinging "I'm Gonna Go Fishin'" with Duke Ellington, which features the witty double entendres that spice several other songs. Muldaur possesses a similar ability to purr ("Some Cats Know") or sizzle (an opening tour de force of "Fever" and "Black Coffee") without breaking a sweat. So this collection of 12 tracks, backed by a talented yet restrained eight-piece band, is a natural extension of her vocal strengths. The stylish, retro arrangements include vibes and big-band-styled horn charts that sound as authentic as if they were recorded in the '30s. Even though there are some finger-popping swing numbers (a zippy duet with Dan Hicks ...
| | Kate & Anna McGarrigle French Record-Entre La Jeunesse Et La Sagesse CD (1980) (Import) Canada
La Vache Qui Pleure
$27.59 This is a collection of classic McGarrigles' material sung in French, along with French/Canadian folk songs.
Kate & Anna McGarrigles' first two albums, released in 1976 and 1977, were showered with critical praise when they appeared. However, when record sales failed to match the level of critical attention that these albums received, the pair attempted an overtly commercial work, the poorly selling and poorly received PRONTO MONTO. Kate & Anna McGarrigle were dropped by their label after the failure of PRONTO MONTO, only to reemerge three years later in 1981 with this beautiful album.
FRENCH RECORD is a collection of a few of their previously recorded songs that were sung in French (the McGarrigles are from Quebec) and new material. The album sold extremely well in their native Canada and has remained one of the duo's enduring favorites. The arrangements--employing accordions, piano, guitars, a rhythm section, ...
| | K D Lang Hymns Of The 49th Parallel CD (2004)
La Vache Qui Pleure
$14.05 Ron Sexsmith, Bruce Cockburn, and Jane Siberry might not be household names on the order of the aforementioned trio, but they're entirely worthy of the passion with which Lang approaches their tunes here, a particular point of transcendence being achieved on Cockburn's gentle, folkish "One Day I Walk." "But wait," you cry, "what about Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Tyson, and the McGarrigle Sisters?" Don't worry; with a talent like Lang's, it's entirely reasonable to assume she'll be on the scene long enough to get around to 49TH ...

| | Bratmobile Pottymouth CD (1993)
La Vache Qui Pleure
$12.89 The first and only full-length album Bratmobile released during its initial period of activity -- in the '90s, the indie music scene was really all about the 7," the format on which Bratmobile made the most of its abilities -- 1993's Pottymouth neatly encapsulates everything Bratmobile was about. At heart, this means that Pottymouth is about the early-'90s indie scene, about the D.I.Y. life in the post-Nirvana age where it seemed like anything could happen. Like many bands formed around the Olympia scene, the three members of Bratmobile were as ...
