Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Jay Sherman (voiced by Jon Lovitz) is a New York film critic who hates most of the films he has to review. To top it all off, he's balding, divorced, and his personal life is a shambles. But fortunately, his relationships with his 11-year-old son, Marty, and his unlikely best friend, a hunky Australian movie star--not to mention the endless thrills of the city--help keep him together. This animated series from the producer of The Simpsons--which ran on ABC-TV during the 1994-95 season (and failed to capture a Simpsons-sized audience)--won a devoted following with its media-savvy satire and constant, broadly comic film parodies. This set includes the entire run of the series. | | Stephen Malkmus Pig Lib CD (2003)
Critic - The Entire Series review
$10.39 Initial pressings of PIG LIB included a bonus CD including five tracks.
Principally recorded at Bear Creek Studios, Woodinville, Washington between May & August 2002.
For his second solo outing after leaving Pavement, Stephen Malkmus expands his musical horizons a bit from his 2001 solo debut, which basically sounded like an extension of his former band's sound. It's only naturally that Malkmus' work should bear some similarities with the output of his erstwhile group, since he played a major role in fashioning their style, and the non-sequitir lyricism and skewed, angular alt-rock that marked the Pavement style are still strongly in evidence. However, there are other elements at work on PIG LIB.
Mostly, it sounds like noted music geek Malkmus has been listening to esoteric '70s UK outfits like progressive blues-rockers the Groundhogs and folk-rock cult heroes Steeleye Span (or perhaps Fairport Convention). The knotty, stately guitar lines that twist their way around many of the songs and intertwine with the vocal melodies are redolent of the beard-rock world inhabited by folks like the aforementioned groups. The sound makes a nice fit for the former lo-fi king, ...
| | Bowling For Columbine DVD (2002) Subtitled; Widescreen
Critic - The Entire Series DVD
$9.69 Filmmaker and leftist activist Michael Moore asks some serious questions as he probes the depths of America's trigger-happy gun culture in the insightful and amusing documentary, BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE. Guns in America are used to kill an average of more than 11,000 people per year. This death toll is obscenely out of balance with other first world countries, which generally average a total in double digits. Experts and analysts have pointed to America's bloody history as a reason, but how does that explain the lower murder rate in Germany? Violent entertainment has also been fingered, but how does this account for staggeringly low numbers in Japan, home of the most violent entertainment video games on the market.
Moore's trademark comedic tone is razor-sharp as his quest leads him everywhere from Littleton Colorado's Columbine High School to the home ...
