| | Isaac Hayes For The Sake Of Love/Don't Let Go CD Isaac Hayes Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
When first released in 1978 and 1979, these two Isaac Hayes albums coincided with a small commercial renaissance for the singer, who'd been out of the upper reaches of the charts since the mid-'70s. "Zeke the Freak," from For the Sake of Love, made the R&B Top 20, and his disco remake of the late-'50s Roy Hamilton hit "Don't Let Go" went Top 20 pop, dragging the album of the same name into the Top 40 as well. Still, these LPs -- here combined onto a single-disc CD -- were shadows of his best earlier work, even as they were true to his approach of mixing extended ballads, off-the-wall covers, and danceable soul-funk. For the Sake of Love offered a couple of his trademark smoochy soul ballad remakes of white pop songs in Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" and James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," and admirable humanitarianism in "If We Ever Need Peace," as well as tapping into the disco movement with "Zeke the Freak." It's dragged down, however, by "Shaft II," an expectedly pointless instrumental remake of "Shaft." Disco was a bigger influence on Don't Let Go, particularly in the title track and another '50s cover (of "Fever"), though otherwise the mood was lights-low. Still, the material on this compilation was low-energy, and at times lethargic, when stacked up against the best of his achievements. ~ Richie Unterberger
Two classic 70s albums from the master of soul/funk on one digitally remastered CD, for the first time. Includes the US R&B Top 40 hits "Zeke The Freak" and "Don't Let Go". Impeccably produced soul, disco and funk - from ornate, sensual grooves (the slow burning "Few More Kisses to Go") to thumping dance beats (the funky "Zeke the Freak").

$10.15 Hey! It\'s our 2nd release!!! Each of these CDs has a hand-rubber-stamped cover, all stamped by us with much love. We designed, stamped, assembled and numbered each CD, so each one is different.Heavy Creatures started making music together in 2004 in an old decayed factory in Brooklyn NY. Inspired by bands such as Shocking Blue, Heart and Led Zeppelin, the double-female fronted band invokes the psychedelic sound and threads it through with their own personal influences, ranging from old Americana, sea shanty choruses and ROCK. The Cymbal and the Skull is a vibrant exploration of the band\'s quest for its own sound. Their debut album, Loaded Sky, (which was recorded live on an analog 8-track in their practice space by engineer & boutique pedal designer John Schumann) was released in the fall of 2006. That album hints at elements of psychedelia and late 60s inspired riffage but it\'s The Cymbal and the Skull that is clearly bringing the Creatures into their own. For this album, the band recorded analog again at Brooklyn\'s Metrosonic Studio with engineer George Dugan, who has recorded other off-the-fringe bands such as Yoke, The Phenomenal Hand Clap Band and New York Howl. Each song style on this recording is unique, and has a different story to tell; almost as if they are a collection of short stories in a large volume. With subject matter that explores different paths of intensity stemming from basic human emotions, it is easy ...
