Best Of Eddie Cochran album
$14.38 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced the set himself, intending to make them sound like a single show. The material leans, understandably, on his recordings with the Anti label. There are stellar performances here, such as "Get Behind the Mule" from The Mule Variations, "Trampled Rose" from Real Gone, and a haunting version of Leadbelly's "Fannin Street" from Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards, to mention just three of the 17 cuts here. But he goes back to his Island albums too. For instance, there are completely re-visioned readings of "Lucky Day" and "I'll Shoot the Moon" from 1993's Black Rider, and a killer -- though equally revamped -- version of ...
| | Sting If On A Winter's Night... CDs (2009) Digipak
Best Of Eddie Cochran CD music
$14.19 It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; he favors formal over familiar, writing madrigals, not ditties. It is music made by someone who lives in a castle, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing: the austerity ...

| | Rod Stewart Never A Dull Moment (Gold) CD (1972) Gold
Best Of Eddie Cochran album
$19.10 NEVER A DULL MOMENT picks up where EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY left off. Here we have more raucous rock & roll with healthy dollops of soul and twang thrown in for good measure. Always looking for a good songwriter to cover, Stewart's honorees here include Jimi Hendrix ("Angel"), Dylan ("Mama You Been On My Mind"), and Rod's personal hero, Sam Cooke ("Twistin' The Night Away"). Sidling ...

| | Mahogany Dream Of A Modern Day CD (2001)
Best Of Eddie Cochran songs
$12.39 This Michigan group blends the smooth, lush vocals of cellist Allysa Massais and guitarist Andrew Prinz with pulsing, rhythmic percussive beats to create a colorful, textured and mature work that can only be in a sense dubbed rare musical genius. The lyrics of songwriting team Prinz and Massais feed off each other magically and with great melodic warmth, bringing to the listener the purest joy of harmony. Dynamics are certainly a large influence on this record, conveyed with strength and forwardness, to take the sound of ...

| | Daddy Rings Most High CD (2007)
Best Of Eddie Cochran music CDs
$13.85 Daddy Rings made his name on the German reggae scene, as a songwriter for and stage partner to the local hitmaker Gentleman. His second solo album is a sharp and intelligent combination of elements -- an old-school rootsiness runs through the whole program, but there are also many funky grooves on the album and a digital sheen overlays everything. What makes The Most High work so well is the combination of Daddy Rings' gorgeous voice and his ability (with the help of several A-list producers) to balance modern and traditional sounds so effectively. Notice, for example, how beautifully "Hard Road" blends modern funk, nyahbinghi drumming, and a heartfelt sufferer's lyric. Note also the hip-hop elements that are so tastefully incorporated into "Check Dis," and the rich, dark, funky rhythm that underlies "Yahe." Elsewhere he explores his horticultural interests on the completely unsubtle "Weed Song," uplifts ...
