Pat Travers' second album release by the man in the year 1977 - picks up perfectly from where Makin' Magic left off. Having found the hard rockin' formula that worked, Pat continued to gig hard with his trusty three piece, `Mars' Cowling and Nicko Mcbrain making up the numbers admirably. Guests on the album include Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham on `Speakeasy' and Rainbow's Tony Carey on the instrumental `Off Beat Ride'. `Speakeasy' and `Life In London', affectionate odes to his new home, show an international side to Pat Travers and his work. Next came America. | Putting It Straight Music Review Average Rating: (2.8 out of 5 stars) Get the ONE WAY 2 on 1 CD with HEAT IN THE STREET Be sure to look for the 2 on CD "Putting It Straight/Heat In The Street" which was released in the US on One Way Records in 2003. Low priced reissue and the sound is VERY GOOD from original tapes, not LP's! This was one of the last One Way releases and not many were sold before the company went out of business. The only thing wrong with the disc is the songs of PUTTING IT STRAIGHT are in the order listed on the back of the original album, not in the running order of the vinyl LP. But you can always reprogram your CD player to fix that problem. Submitted by zoni (Seattle, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Music- Fantastic!, CD Quality- beyond poor! Pat's best. Don't let the 1 star fool you this is serious rock that put him on the map. My biggest beef would be the quality of the CD which detracts from any musical pleasure one might otherwise enjoy. This is not remastered, it's a copy of an LP which explains why the CD listing doesn't match the track order. Submitted by dodgetx (Dallas.TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Best Of His Career An awesome boogie-rock albyum from the '70s. Probably his best, too. A shame that the remastered version from Majestic Rock is shoddy with serious static throughout. Incorrect tracklisting order from actual CD, as well. Submitted by dgcaldwell (Toronto, ON, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
You Wanna ROCK! This is it. Take a look at the cover, that tells it all. This is truly 70's rock to the fullest. But not only does the credit all go to PT, he was backed by a solid bassist and drummer. Submitted by JCastle (TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Pat Travers never sounded more focused and inspired than he does on Live! Go for What You Know, which was recorded during the Canadian hard rocker/blues-rocker's U.S. tour of early 1979. Travers can really burn on stage, and this album reflects that. Backed by guitarist Pat Thrall (who had been a member of the obscure space rock band Automatic Man in 1976 and 1977), bassist Mars Gowling, and drummer Tommy Aldridge, the singer is in top form on explosive, definitive versions of funky originals like "Heat in the Street," "Gettin' Betta," and "Makes No Difference." But the best-known thing on the album is Travers' gutsy performance of Stan Lewis' blues classic "Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights)," ...

| | Francois Raulin Trois Plans Sur La Comete CD (2000)
Putting It Straight
$13.95 This intriguing, drumless trio takes off from Jimmy Giuffre's early-'60s experiments in the same format, and impressively expands them in several directions. The pieces, largely composed by pianist Raulin tend to have a strong thematic basis even as they veer toward the freely improvisational, often riding the line between in a delicious manner. "Soho," for instance, begins with free-form, groaning, baritone sax from Francois Corneloup (who is excellent throughout) before spiraling into a chugging, propulsive rhythm that recalls puffing locomotives. When the leader's solo turn comes, Raulin, to one's surprise, is heard investigating the properties of the prepared piano -- a smidgen of Cage blithely tossed into a jazz performance to wonderful effect. Similarly, "Calligraphes" starts with a wild arco solo from bassist Bruno Chevillon, known for his fine contributions to many of Louis Sclavis' groups, before settling into a lovely tango with multi-tracked soprano lines, and Chevillon continuing to race on his own looping, swirling path. Indeed, the highlight of the set might be "Song for Oime," with a prelude that recalls Anthony Davis at his most severe, but then tumbles into a baritone-led lament of heartfelt immediacy. Raulin keeps this juggling act in play for the duration. Just when you ...

Putting It Straight
$7.29 Tigerbeat6's Paws Across America celebrates the label's most extensive tour of North America yet by collecting tracks from all of the artists hitting the road. The jerky dance-punk of Numbers' "I'm Shy" and "Prisonlife" appears here in remixed form, while the ...
