Arne Nordheim has enjoyed relative success, at least in his native Norway, as a composer, but his early electronic music remained largely ignored. One of Rune Grammofon's first projects upon its inception was to release a collection of his electronic works from the late '60s under the title Electric. The release triggered a rediscovery of the music and had an immediate influence on the young generation of experimental electronica artists. Working as a tribute and a testimony, Nordheim Transformed combines remixes by Geir Jenssen, aka Biosphere, and Helge Sten, aka Deathprod (a solo producer and member of the quartet Supersilent). The key word is in the title: transformed. Biosphere and Deathprod don't merely remix pieces like "Colorazione" and "Warszawa"; they have dusted them down and given them a whole new treatment. Early electronic music wears its age on its face: the sound of early tone generators and the crude reverb and editing technique are all unmistakable. But under the hands of these two they fade away completely. Both artists have a penchant for dreamy tunes that allow a minimal, leitmotiv-like fragment to repeat and become a melody while noise-peppered textures evolve in the background. Deathprod has produced the most ambient tracks. A bit warmer and finely detailed, they offer a nice alternative to the light melancholia of Biosphere's music. This is all very remote from Arne Nordheim's sound world, but it makes a pleasant album in its own right, an album fans of Hazard, Oren Ambarchi, and the lighter side of Fennesz will enjoy. ~ François Couture

Nordheim Transformed album
$13.25 From the first grinding notes of the famous vamp that introduces "Whole Lotta Love," LED ZEPPELIN II announces for all to hear that they are the definitive hard rock band of their generation. But before the listener can even settle into the groove, things takes a hard left turn into a spacey new rhythm, exotically flavored by Page's droning feedback and innovative use of a violin bow. By tune's end, Zeppelin has repeatedly toyed with the listener's expectations.
This subversive quality distinguishes most of the arrangements on ...

Nordheim Transformed music CDs
$8.79 Though Dutch indie rockers Bettie Serveert wouldn't make a big splash on the alt-rock scene until their second album, the band's debut, PALOMINE established the template for their sound. As with much of their other work, PALOMINE is a study in contrasts. It alternates between brashly rocking and quietly reflective, sometimes within the same song. One of the most immediately striking things about the album is just how American these Hollanders sound. Echoes of the Velvet Underground, Neil Young ...

$12.89 Fernando Corona had a stated purpose for his debut album as Murcof: Take contemporary composition and introduce it to the world of minimalist Mexican techno. The album ...

Nordheim Transformed CD music
$7.99 Matthew Loiacono is a musician from upstate New York. Performing original and adapted / rearranged music in the moment on mandolin, banjo, acoustic & electric guitars, drums, percussion and much more, he is mildly obsessed with marrying traditional instruments with modern technology and sounds. Known to utilize live on-the-fly looping, octave pedals, thick distortion and heavy reverb, Matthew delivers a unique, constantly evolving musical performance."Kentucky" was written and recorded over 22 days in February 2008 in a basement in Round Lake, N.Y. Matthew challenged himself to record the entire album using just his mandolin and his voice as the sound sources. Looping pedals, octave pedals, distortion pedals and delay pedals were all used to create the sound of a "full band". Here’s what Mogger Edmund Frost Booth had to say about “Kentucky“:Built upon sparse stringed instrumentation, the occasional single pounding percussion (a la Tom Waits), and sonorous harmonies that float in and out of one another flawlessly married to lyrics ...
