Black & White; Standard Screen; Additional Footage; Remastered Allan Dwan's production of the tale, starring Douglas Fairbanks as the eponymous hero, was the first to include most of the elements that would become familiar to film audiences in the many later versions. One of the most expensive films of the 1920s, it required the construction of the entire village of Nottingham, one of the most elaborate sets of the era. The film opens with the Earl of Huntingdon besting Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Paul Dickey)is a joust. Huntingdon soon joins King Richard the Lionhearted (Wallace Beery) to fight in the Crusades against the infidels. Upon hearing that the nefarious Prince John (Sam de Grasse) has usurped Richard's throne, Huntingdon immediately returns to Nottingham, adopting the name of Robin Hood. Leading a band that steals from the rich to give to the poor, he makes life miserable for Prince John and his cohorts Sir Guy and the Sheriff of Nottingham (William Lowery). But after rescuing Maid Marian (Enid Bennett) from the clutches of Prince John, Robin himself is captured. Fairbanks is at his acrobatic best in this spectacular production which features a fine cast including a surprising Beery as the benign king.
This is the only Paul Dickey video. Stars also making their debut in this video: Maine Geary, William Lowery. Robin Hood film
$12.85 Based on the journals of Brother Gaspar de Carvajal, AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD is director Werner Herzog's hallucinatory tale of Spanish colonialists searching for El Dorado, the legendary city of gold, in 16th-century Peru. When the travellers reach an impasse, a scouting party is assembled to search for any traces of the mythical empire. As they attempt to forge their way through the dense jungle, more and more of the party falls ill while their ruthless leader, Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski), grows increasingly insane.
Widely considered to be Herzog's finest film, AGUIRRE, which shares much in common with Francis Ford Coppola's APOCALYPSE NOW, highlights the director's visionary approach to filmmaking. Like Coppola's film, accounts of AGUIRRE's shooting are laced with legendary incidents, such as the time Herzog reportedly held a gun to Kinski's head to get him to finish a scene. Whatever transpired between Herzog and Kinski, it made for astonishing cinema, as evidenced by the actor's ...

Robin Hood DVD
$9.79 Sydney (Philip Baker Hall), a mysterious professional gambler, befriends John (John C. Reilly), a young man in trouble, and teaches him the ways of making a living in the casinos of Reno. John gets involved with Clementine (Gwyneth Paltrow), a pretty waitress who doubles as a prostitute, and Jimmy (Samuel L. Jackson), a two-faced criminal. When trouble erupts, suddenly Sydney has to rescue his young friend, but a secret from his past threatens to destroy everything he has tried to build up.
Director Paul Thomas Anderson's highly acclaimed debut feature (based on the films of Jonathan Demme and John Cassavetes) is a tight, intricate film noir character study with a more disciplined plot than his later, more expansive films. The film also features excellent work from his four actors, particularly Hall as the experienced, world-weary Sydney, and fascinating details about the lowlife world the characters inhabit. HARD EIGHT originated as a short film, CIGARETTES AND COFFEE, that Anderson ...

$9.85 Blake Edwards's return to the male-in-meltdown territory he explored in 10 and THAT'S LIFE stars John Ritter as unemployed writer Zach, who is not only suffering from writer's block, but his drinking is out of control, as is his obsessive womanizing, and, not surprisingly, his wife wants to end their marriage. To add to his problems, his house has just burned down, and his agent is knocking at death's door. But since this is a Blake Edwards comedy, Zach has enough charm and relative affluence to continue his pursuits, which the director regards with a bemused deatchment. One of his girlfriends sets his piano on fire, and another gets him to wear a glow-in-the-dark condom, allowing him to engage in a condom duel with her jealous, similarly clad rock-star boyfriend. Eventually, Zach turns to fatherly bartender Barney (Vince Gardenia), who should have long ago cut off his bar tab, and psychiatrist Dr. Westford (choreographer Michael Kidd), and both tell him to stop destroying himself through drink. Ritter rings some surprisingly complex changes in the wildly farcical film, and, in the condom battle, participates in one of the funniest moments ever committed to celluloid while suggesting an interesting ...
| | Little Caesar DVD (1930) Full Frame; Subtitled
Robin Hood film
$14.49 With its focus on character flaws instead of plot devices, LITTLE CAESAR is the mother of the modern gangster flick. Edward G. Robinson stars as Enrico Bandelli in the role that made him a household name. Bandelli moves to the big city with partner in crime Joe Massara (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) and becomes a member of Sam Vettori's Mafia gang. In spite of the urgings of pretty girl Olga Strassoff (Glenda Farell) to quit the mob, Rico quickly becomes the head of the Vettori gang and with a couple of quick kills scares mob boss Arnie Lorch back to Detroit. Bandelli, dubbed Little Caesar by the press, is known as a boss in his own right, but what goes up must come down in this tale of excessive hubris. At the time of its release, the stacatto sound design for LITTLE CAESAR was leagues ahead of its early talkie contemporaries. But what keeps the film alive is the fine script and the startling performance from Edward G. Robinson.
Gangster classic involving a small-time hood who becomes a mob big shot. Director: Mervyn Le Roy, Edward Robinson, Douglas Fairbanks, ...

| | World According To Garp DVD (1982) Widescreen
Robin Hood DVD
$8.79 George Roy Hill's intermittently faithful adaptation of John Irving's best-selling novel lightens the tone of the book's black comedy while retaining at least part of its effect. It stars Robin Williams as T.S. Garp--the fatherless son of well-known eccentric feminist activist Jenny Fields (Glenn Close) who spends much of his life trying to escape the influence of his unusual upbringing and the ever-expanding shadow of his mother's fame. Intent on becoming a writer, living a normal life, and raising a family, Garp marries college sweetheart Helen Holm (Mary Beth Hurt) and starts a family, but he is plagued by the feeling he must wage war against all that is violent in the world that can possibly bring harm to them. When he finally publishes his first book, his mother simultaneously publishes a feminist manifesto that makes her a lightning rod for all manner of victimized women. Among her followers is the transsexual ex-football player Roberta Muldoon (John Lithgow), a model of sanity, who becomes a friend of Garp's and leads him toward a reconciliation with his mother and her cause. The briskly paced film captures much of the spirit of Irving's quirky, neopicaresque novel and is well served by its stellar cast, with exceptional work by Close and Lithgow.

| | Harry Knuckles And The Pearl Necklace DVD (2004)
Robin Hood DVD
$10.19 This gleefully ridiculous and low-budget action spoof is the second full-length release in the HARRY KNUCKLES series, which has its proud origins in a fake trailer that was shot in 1998 by the inventively twisted Canadian writer-director Lee Demarbre. In this installment, the suave hairy-handed spy known as "The Spanish Fly" (Phil Caracas) attempts to recover a valuable stolen necklace. A masked Mexican wrestler, fistfights, inept kung-fu, a fake Bigfoot, swordplay, lots of bananas, and an evil twin are just the beginning of the complications in this goofy and masterfully over-the-top send-up.
From the makers of Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter, its a punch-drunk dream come true as Canada's favorite super spy, Harry Knuckles makes his feature film debut in "Harry Knuckles and the Pearl Necklace" A valuable necklace has gone missing, and Harry is on the case. Teamed with his loyal friend (who believes himself to be Mexican wrestling hero El Santos) and armed with a lethal arsenal of kung-fu moves, a hair-trigger temper and a seemingly endless supply of potassium-rich bananas, Harry's ready to knuckle up against any and all comers. See Harry go toe to toe with the hinterland horror of the Bionic Bigfoot! ...
