-- Peter Kenis, Rolling Stone Vanishing Point Movie Review Average Rating: (4.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews 3 Stars for the car----- I saw this movie at the drive in when it was released. It was sad when the producers towed a white 68 Camaro by cable into the dozers.
Barry Newman had stated that they had to return all ( 3 ) Challengers back to the dealership. 2 440 4-speeds and 1 440 auto, which they used to pull the cable.
Good movie for its time. Submitted by raymond.marquis (New Hampshire) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Time Capsule I was 18 years old when this movie came out. Watching it today is like traveling back in time to another age, another world. The V-8s, the music, the characters, the sweeping panoramic vistas of Colorado, Utah and Nevade circa 1970 -- it's like opening a time capsule.
The deleted scene in the UK version really adds nothing to the film, but is interesting to see. The commentary by director Sarafian is sometimes informative, and explains to me why he never made another film with such a distinctively unique visual style -- the chase sequences were directed exclusively by the cinematographer and stunt coordinator, not Sarafian. Alonzo's camerawork is truly amazing, especially considering a lot of it was hand-held and is steady as a rock.
Still a wonderful film, King of the Musclecar Movies and granddaddy of all subsequent chase films, worthy of its cult status. I recommend the soundtrack, too -- it sounds better every time you hear it. Submitted by Hank (Durham, NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.

$9.79 Mutrux's crude cult classic answer to AMERICAN GRAFITTI and ANIMAL HOUSE follows the comic exploits of the Hollywood Knights, a rowdy, prank-happy car club, and their screwball leader Newbomb Turk (Wuhl). When a group of Beverly Hills preppies decide to run the déclassé pranksters out of town by closing down their hang-out--Tubby's Drive-in--the 'Knights (featuring a young Danza and Pfeiffer) unleash a chaotic string of practical jokes in retaliation, culminating in a hell-raising ...
| | Bullitt DVD (1968) Widescreen
Vanishing Point review
$15.69 In one of his most memorable roles, Steve McQueen stars as Detective Frank Bullitt, a hard-driving, tough-as-nails San Francisco cop. Bullitt has just received what sounds like a routine assignment: keep a star witness out of sight and out of danger for 48 hours, then deliver him to the courtroom on Monday morning. But before the night is out, the witness will lie dying of shotgun wounds, and Bullitt, a no-glitter, all-guts cop, won't rest until he nabs the gunmen and the elusive underworld kingpin who hired them.
From opening shot to closing shootout, Peter Yates's edge-of-the seat thriller is packed with authentic touches, from on-location San Francisco filming and believably crisp dialogue to uncompromisingly detailed police, hospital, and morgue procedures. The most memorable scene is BULLITT's celebrated car chase. McQueen, an expert automobile and motorcycle racer, does his own stunt driving as he propels his high-performance Mustang GT around and ...

Vanishing Point DVD
$10.25 Set in 1962; Produced and released in 1973.
AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) and the eternally cool drag racer, John (Paul LeMat), who feels pressure to live up to his reputation. A nostalgic feeling is evoked in seeing the teenagers cruising in their hot rods, eating at ...
| | Gone In 60 Seconds DVD (1974) Widescreen
Vanishing Point movie DVD
$10.05 The basis for the 2000 film starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie, 1974's GONE IN 60 SECONDS is a revered cult classic, mostly because of the delirious 40 minute car chase that concludes the film. Directed by its star, writer, producer, and stunt driver H.B. Halicki, GONE IN 60 SECONDS was a drive-in phenomenon when it was originally released. In it, Maindrian Pace and a group of his colleagues race to steal 48 specific makes and models of cars in a week, which will net them $250,000 if they succeed. However, the group runs into trouble trying to jack a 1973 Mach 1 Mustang, and Pace ends up being chased through seven counties by throngs of police in what is probably the most exciting and ambitious car chase ever filmed.
Written, directed by, and starring H.B. "Toby" Halicki, this movie was almost impossible to find for years. A runaway theatrical hit in 1974, "Gone in 60 Seconds" defined the genre of the car chase film and became an instant classic. The Assignment: to steal 48 luxury cars and sport vehicles. The challenge: avoid getting caught! When the cops finally catch up with master thief Pace Maindrain, he rocks them through a 40-minute full-throttle chase, wrecking half of Los Angeles making his ...

Formerly imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, Rockford now makes a (meager) living as a private eye living in Malibu--in a mobile home.
