Copasetik & Cool is another strong showing from Hilary Mwelwa, who remains one of the best contemporary R&B performers around right now. Anyone familiar with her voice will be pleased to hear more of the same; this means accomplished, non-showy vocals and well-rounded subject matter. As on Soul Organic, the arrangements backing her are well crafted and executed with skill -- with lush hip-hop, acoustic folk, uptown soul, and relatively gritty disco-funk all playing roles -- but they err on the side of over-politeness and occasionally lack oomph. The hourlong length can be draining as well, but when it comes down to it, Mwelwa and her partners have made a second enjoyable, multi-dimensional album. ~ Andy Kellman

| Copasetik & Cool Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) Absolutely Fantastic! Hil St Soul is way over the top! It has become one of my new all time favorite groups. I initially purchased the CD because I had heard the single, "For the love of you." I now have so many other favorites on the CD. I look forward to purchasing more from Hil St Soul. Smooth, Special, Sensational I have the first CD and I was not sure about the 2nd knowing how sometimes sophomore CD's can be disappointing. However this 2nd effort is outstanding. Submitted by bertjr (Cranberry Township, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great I originally purchased this CD for the song "Pieces" I didn't think that it would be any good, but I found that I like this more than I like the CD that I purchased along with it. Let's just say that since I bought this CD it is the only one that I have listened to in my car since. Submitted by J. Lacey (S. Fallsburg, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

SWEET AND SULTRY VOCALS GET FUNKDAFIED!!! I happened upon this CD while shopping for the new CEE-LO and had the chance to listen to it. "WOW, what a true gem to come across", is all I could think of from the first track feat. ROOTS MANUVA "of which I'm a big fan of" and throughout the entire disc!!!!! They had 1 left and I snatched it up quickly. This has got to be one of the best Neosoul, funky, groovey, jazzy mixtures of sound I've heard in a while!!! Just try to imagine a mixture of India Arie, Joss Stone, Remy Shand and the JazzyFatNasties all rolled into 1.....!!!!! Now that's one hell of a mix, but there it is and from begining to end you'll love every lost drop of tasteful soul that comes out!!!! A must have for any fan of the genre... Happy listening!!! Copasetik & Cool CD music
$11.35 Additional personnel includes: Ursula Rucker (spoken vocals); James Poyser (various instruments); Doc Gibbs (percussion); King Britt (programming).
From Frank Sinatra to Britney Spears, popular music's most visible figures have often represented Western culture's obsession with youth, physical beauty and the pursuit of short-term romance over committed monogamous relationships. Apparently hoping to reverse the trend, with SURRENDER TO LOVE Kindred The Family Soul delivers what may be the first modern mainstream album to so fully, genuinely. and unpretentiously embrace the concept of hearth, home and family. Using a spare, easy-flowing old school soul ...
| | Kem Album II CD (2005)
Copasetik & Cool music CDs
$11.15 Kem opens ALBUM II by questioning the nature of love on "Find Your Way (Back in My Life)," and the entire record is an exploration of that familiar theme. Kem's take on love is multi-faceted and, at times, deeply tied to his connection with God, to whom he directly addresses two songs, "Heaven" and "Each Other." An unassuming spirituality winds its way through his R&B compositions in an organic fashion similar to Stevie Wonder's early ...
| | Goapele Even Closer CD (2002)
Copasetik & Cool songs
$9.89 Eric Krasno (guitar); Neal Evans (Hammond B-3 organ); Alan Evans (drums).
Even Closer is a reworked version of Goapele's limited release debut, Closer, with five additional songs: "Ease Your Mind" (featuring Pep Love), "Got It," "The Daze" (featuring Zion I and Casual), "Back to You," and "Red, White & Blues" (an anti-war song featuring a blistering guitar solo by Errol Cooney). It showcases Goapele's sultry, cascading voice with relatively sparse vocal arrangements and the contributions of producers such as Amp Live, Jeff Bhasker, Eric Krasno, and Mike Tiger, who help create a smooth, tasty mixture of soul, hip-hop, jazz, and occasional touches of other styles. Goapele navigates this potpourri quite adeptly, although the album does tread a thin line between appealingly eclectic and insufficiently cohesive; fortunately, she has enough talent, including a sufficiently distinctive vocal personality, to pull ...
