| | Aerosmith Millennium Collection: 20th Century Masters CD (2007) Remastered
Unfinished Business CD music
$7.45 Those who do not pay much attention to record company affiliations should be warned that this discount-priced album, billed as the "best of Aerosmith," represents only their most popular recordings made for Geffen Records between 1987 and 1994. That said, it represents them well, including all 11 of Aerosmith's Top 40 hits from the period ("Angel," ...

| | British Invasion Box CDs (2004) Box Set
Unfinished Business songs
$15.99 While Varese Sarabande's The British Invasion Box certainly isn't a thoroughly comprehensive or complete overview of the mid-'60s boom of all things English in the world of rock & roll, it's certainly an entertainingly idiosyncratic examination of the period. Disc one, 25 Hits from the British Invasion, stretches that title more than a bit -- in no known universe was "I Knew It All the Time" by the Dave Clark Five really a hit, though since it predated their run of hits it was doubtless available to license unlike their best-known stuff, and similar legal issues make for a few other oddball inclusions. Since obtaining the rights for Beatles and Rolling Stones tracks would be either impossible or cripplingly expensive, compilers Cary E. Mansfield and Steve Massie have made some interesting substitutions -- David & Jonathan's cover of "Michelle," which was produced by Fab Four knob-twiddler George Martin, Twice as Much's take on "Sitting on a Fence," which was produced by onetime Stones Svengali Andrew Loog Oldham, and a version of "Out of Time" by Chris Farlow, which was produced ...
| | Essential Cheap Trick CDs (2004) Remastered
Unfinished Business album
$15.95 Recorded between 1977 & 1996. Includes liner notes by Ron Albanese.
Although multiple Cheap Trick collections have been released, the two-disc ESSENTIAL is an excellent compilation for those wanting more than just a cursory overview of the Illinois quartet's work. The band's masterful ...
| | Prism Small Change CD (1981)
Unfinished Business CD music
$13.49 Small Change was the last album that Prism recorded before the band's demise (reorganizing with weaker personnel in 1988 and without the late Ron Tabak). Prism substituted its vigorous rock & roll sound for a more refined blend of soft rock amiability, which paid off to some extent. The vocals are toned down, the extravagance of the horns and synthesizers are absent, and the songs reflect a more adult-oriented feel. Written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, "Don't Let Him Know" is the album's best guitar-driven track, and represents Prism's late-'70s rock & roll sound better than any other. But "Turn on Your Radar" and "Rain," especially, are two of the group's best semi-ballads, containing some of the sharpest songwriting and use of melody that Prism has ever employed. Efforts such as "When Will I See You Again," "When Love Goes Wrong," and "Wings of Love" have the band taking the prettiness of the love song a little too far, and even the delicate piano and keyboard parts sound overly luscious. On the whole, Small Change was a sturdy farewell ...

| | Thea Gilmore Harpo's Ghost CD (2006)
Unfinished Business album
$15.89 One of the U.K.'s most promising singer/songwriters returns after nearly a three-year absence. In the interim, Thea Gilmore had been diagnosed with clinical depression, dealt with serious illness in her family, and split with a longtime romantic partner. All of this was sure to affect her music, but Harpo's Ghost still feels like a natural successor to 2003's breakthrough release, Avalanche. Harpo's Ghost is produced again by guitarist Nigel Stonier, who isn't afraid to place Gilmore's breathy, sexy voice in a variety of edgy settings. The trick is to stuff the artist's plentiful lyrics into a vehicle that focuses attention on them yet allows her melodies to flourish, and Stonier succeeds wonderfully, shifting from ...
