On Led Zeppelin: The Making Of A Supergroup, the group and their music are put under the microscope and with the aid of band footage, exclusive interviews, obscure photographs, location shoots and many other features, makes for the best documentary film on the band yet to emerge. There are also interviews with the band and those close to them, and exclusive interviews with close friends and colleagues of the band including Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty from The Yardbirds. Also included are contributions from those around at the time, such as Zep's PR manager, their tour promoter and many other musicians with whom they played. There is also review, criticism, opinion and insight from the world's leading Led Zeppelin experts. The face of classic rock just wouldn't be the same without this essential band led by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. This unofficial documentary dives into the band's history, featuring interviews with those who knew the band best, including The Yardbirds members Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty. Led Zeppelin - Making Of A Supergroup: Unauthorized Movie Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) Misguided but not that bad. Gee, where to start? This DVD should have probably had a few BIG disclaimers right on the front of the case. First, they should have definately put "NO ORIGINAL LED ZEPPELIN MUSIC ON THIS DVD!" in BIG letters. Since that's the number one reason most fans would buy this, it's bound to piss most of them off right from the first five minutes. The second disclaimer should have read "WARNING! LOTS OF TALKING!" This is basically an interview DVD. There are interviews with some of the ex-yardbirds, other musicians of the era, road managers and even a zep tribute band. Most Zep fans could care less what ex-promo men, ex-pre-zep band members or anyone else for that matter have to say about the early days. They want backstage and studio video of the band and lots of live footage. Being only a moderate fan, I found the recollections of some of those interviewed pretty interesting but if you're a die-hard fan there's probably very little new information here. They claim on the cover that there is "previously unseen film footage", not having seen all the other DVDs, I wouldn't know. I did notice that some of the live shots are actually of the tribute band they interview but there's never any mention that it's not the real band. These clips are mixed in with real band footage and that's pretty misleading IMO. The music is definitely an afterthought and is mixed pretty much in the background. A lot of it is from Anubis Spire, an American love 'em or hate 'em guitar band that admits to being influenced by zep but sounds nothing like them. It probably would have been better to find a band that could write some generic knockoffs of "Good Times/Bad times" or approximate zep tone-wise to avoid alienating the band's fans. If you're into hearing recollections of the early days from those who were there you might like this DVD. If you're looking for anything else, get the authorized DVD's. Interesting interviews, no Led Zeppelin music. If you like hearing about the formative years of Led Zeppelin from the people who lived it, then you might like this. If you're looking for big sexy pictures of the band, forget it. There's no real Led Zeppelin music here either. Lots of talking about the band, very little of the band. Some interesting stories though. Submitted by bletchley (New York, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Personnel: Tom Araya (vocals); Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King (guitar); Dave Lombardo (drums). Audio Mixer: Greg Fidelman. Editor: Dan Monti. Photographer: Andrew Stewart. Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound is lean and mean, with bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's vocals mixed relatively dry and upfront, giving the album a bracing, fist-to-the-face force. Jackhammer tracks such as "Hate Worldwide" and "Psychopathy Red" are short, no muss-no fuss blasts of double kick drum, minor key-riffing fury, with an unrelenting intensity that requires little ...

| | Very Best Of Otis Redding CD (1992)
Led Zeppelin - Making Of A Supergroup: Unauthorized movie DVD
$7.79 Includes liner notes by Kevin Phinney. Digitally remastered by Bill Inglot & Dan Hersch. Personnel: Otis Redding (vocals); Carla Thomas (vocals). Liner Note Author: Kevin Phinney. The Very Best of Otis Redding wasn't the first Otis Redding compilation but it is the best of the single-disc collections, distilling the high points across his career (up thru the posthumous hits "(Sitting' On) The Dock of the Bay" and the heartbreaking "I've Got Dreams to Remember") in 16 tracks, every one a musical milestone and a soul music high-point of one kind or another. Although aimed at the casual listener and the neophyte fan, there are some astonishing realizations to be had in listening to this disc and looking at the chart placements of the early sides, and realizing just how uniform his musical influence is -- "These Arms of Mine" and, especially, "Pain In My Heart," from 1962 and 1963, respectively, sold only a fraction of what his later singles did, yet they've been covered by so many ...
