At one time, any reference to Adiemus, or the group?s composer, Karl Jenkins, would invariably mention the soundtrack music for the hugely successful Delta Airlines commercial in the mid-90s. But after a decade of chart-topping albums, Adiemus stands on its own as a musical original. VOCALISE, which means wordless song, remains Jenkins? musical trademark and his invented, phonetic language is used brilliantly by his giggling childlike choirs and haunting soloists. The African inflections of his earlier chant work has been supplanted with Indian and Moorish influences and a Punjabi folk song. ?Dona Nobis Pacem - Part I? features an eerie Middle-Eastern vocal which stops the album cold with its starkness and then is quickly transposed into the celestial ?Part II,? a warm, jazzy composition featuring saxophonist Nigel Hitchcock. ?The Protector? features Adiemus? first English vocal for a prayer to the universal protector and delivers the album?s most touching moment. Jenkins feels his goal with Adiemus is to create a sound that incorporates a diverse style of music and yet sounds like one musical form. On VOCALISE, he succeeds admirably.

Vocalise album
$10.59 The work of European composer Karl Jenkins, the Adiemus debut SONGS OF SANCTUARY is one of those late 20th century musical triumphs whose success came, oddly enough, through a Delta Airlines TV commercial in which the track "Adiemus" was featured. The exposure resulted in hefty sales for this initial Adiemus collection and ensured further releases.
The music is grounded in Western classical structure but features a vocal technique drawn from Africa and executed exuberantly by a chorus of young children as well as the South ...
| | Allman Brothers Band Dreams CDs (1989) Box Set
Vocalise CD music
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.
DREAMS' strengths are considerable. First and foremost, the box contains nearly five wall-to-wall hours of great music. By including everything from early demos to Gregg Allman and Dickie Betts' solo material, DREAMS does a great job of tracing the group's musical evolution from hippie blues band to kings of Southern rock. And, while the unreleased studio version of "Statesboro Blues" included here isn't definitive, it's still mighty good-as are the set's other rarities. | | Adiemus IV: The Eternal Knot CD (2001)
Vocalise songs
$11.79 The Eternal Knot is an extraordinary, dramatic soundtrack to a major television documentary series The Celts, created by Opus Television for S4C International; the series traces the history, lives, and culture of the remarkable Celtic people. Rather than simply perform artificial modern pieces reflecting today's lust for anything to do with that culture, Welsh composer Karl Jenkins delves into the rich history of the music and its ancient originators who lived over 2000 years ago north of the Mediterranean. Each track is based on a famous Celtic myth or historical figure, and the real joy of the collection is reading the liner note blurbs about them and then conjuring them to life as the music swells. "Cu Chullain" is portrayed as the ideal chieftain and defender of his tribe, so the tune features thick tribal march percussion, soaring native female vocals, and dancing orchestral sweeps. "Place of the Crystal Bridge" features the mystical imagery of a delightful palace on a small island, and the whimsical music is like an Irish twist on "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies." "Salm O 'Dewi Sant'" is about Saint David, who founded many monasteries, so the music has an appropriate brooding solemnity. The album's numerous soloists are almost all of Celtic extraction or have chosen to make a Celtic country their home, lending true authenticity to an extraordinary undertaking. ~ Jonathan Widran

| | Doors Legacy: The Absolute Best CDs (1967)
Vocalise album
$19.79 Recorded between 1967 & 1983. Includes liner notes by Jim Ladd.
Released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the first Doors album, THE VERY BEST OF THE DOORS supercedes all former Doors compilations. At two discs and 34 tracks, this is quite comprehensive for a band whose key lineup released only half a dozen albums. In addition to all the expected hits like "Light My Fire," "Hello I Love You," and "Roadhouse Blues," this compilation delves much deeper into the catalogue with fan favorites such as "Not To Touch the Earth" and "Wishful Sinful," as well as a handful of previously obscure rarities. Remastered and newly remixed by original engineer Bruce Botnick and the surviving members of the Doors, THE VERY BEST OF THE DOORS is a solid tribute to the band.
The first Doors album was an important development in the evolution of rock, representing the dark underbelly of the '60s counterculture, the Jekyll to the Beatles/Beach Boys' Hyde. The Doors were the antithesis of windblown Californian pop. Dark, brooding and alienated, every element of the quartet's metier was unveiled on their debut album. In Jim Morrison they posessed one of rock's authoritative voices, while the group's dense instrumental prowess reflected his lyrical mystery. Highly literate, they wedded Oedipian tragedy with counter-culture nihlism and, in "Light My Fire", expressed exotic images previously unheard in pop. How

| | Emile Pandolfi Secret Love CD (1996)
Vocalise songs
$12.59 About EmileIt has been said that he plays “luxurious arrangements” with an “ethereal quality”; that he plays in a “free-flowing, emotional manner that seems to go to the music’s very soul.” (Stereophile Magazine) Without a doubt, when you hear Emile Pandolfi play, you know that you are hearing one of today’s finest pianists. Receiving his degree in piano performance, Emile applies his classical technique to Broadway and Popular music, in addition to classical performance, to the delight of his many fans. Strong in both technique and musicality, he has performed in many parts of the world throughout his professional career. Best known for his arrangements, Emile’s favorite music to arrange comes from Broadway musicals. “In addition to being melodically fulfilling, these songs usually contain meaningful lyrics and lend themselves to interesting arrangement”. In many of his arrangements, one can hear the influence of Chopin and Debussy, accounting for the sensitivity and passion with which he plays.Recording since 1991, his lush arrangements of familiar music have sold over two and a quarter million copies nationally. This has earned Emile the distinction of being the top-selling artist in the alternative music industry, distributed primarily in specialty, gift and book shops across the nation. While he was growing up, the Pandolfi home was known as “the place to gather” and music was always associated with fun. That attitude continues ...
| | Sounds Of Nature: Seals CD (2003)
Vocalise album
$9.95 Oreade Music produces the "Our World's Sounds" series with, as it says clearly on the front and back covers, "no music, no voice-over." This is an important distinction, since so many relaxation or meditation-themed nature albums muddy up the natural elements with clunky, new age synths or whispered words. The additional sounds are probably added with good intentions. Nevertheless, they too often take away from the pristine simplicity of the ambient nature recordings. For this installment, Oreade ...
| | Klaus Schulze Inter*Face CD (1985)
Vocalise CD music
$14.59 Inter*Face is a disappointment. Klaus Schulze combines Berlin school electronica with rock & roll textures better than most. He does so on this album and he also incorporates some (ouch!) disco beats. There are four tracks on this CD. The first three -- about half the disc -- are run of the mill at best. Track four, the title track, is vintage Schulze. It features spacy atmospheres, experimental timbres, symphonic textures, and deep sequences. The overall CD is uneven. This is for die-hard Schulze fans only. ~ Jim Brenholts

| | Tongue Shock & Awe CD (2007) (Import)
Vocalise music CDs
$28.89 In 2006 it seemed like he came from nowhere. His debut ep 'bad education' included just 4 songs - 2 of which were put into high rotation on triple j. He is that kind of artist. It's september 2007 and elefant traks are excited to reveal the debut lp from one of the freshest and most vibrant voices in a new generation of australian hip hop artists. His name is the tongue and his phenomenal album "shock & awe" lives up to every ounce of hype he's received to this date. Projecting a youthful enthusiasm overflowing with confidence and acumen, the tongue has created a penetrating highlight-filled hip hop album. To say he has a natural charisma is an understatement, and to explain his comprehension of flow and wordplay as adept is like saying tiger woods is good ...
