| | Renaissance: The Master Series CD Hernan Cattaneo Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by Hernan Cattaneo.
With progressive house feeling the strain of way too many tunes and mixes with few new ideas, Hernan Cattaneo comes off as a fresh voice. No doubt it's the reason he's been selected to relaunch Renaissance's Master Series now coming out of its third year of hibernation. Cattaneo is a wonderful song selector and a tasteful mixer, rarely going for the obvious but unwilling to fracture his sets with anything outlandish. Here he starts with one disc of the slow and spacey, and follows it with one that drives a bit harder -- a device that's been used numerous times, but that's about it for being commonplace. Disc One's deep journey has more than its fair share of highlights. Tiger Corps' combination of saxophone and darts of Detroit keyboards is a winner, while Bill Makris fills his track with silky stutters and a melody that slowly worms into the brain. The second set starts off just fine with Chab's slick, Trans-European hand clapper (Kraftwerk's lawyers should really hear it) but layering T-Empo's gimmicky narrative "Fouk," over Josh Winks' fine-as-is "Oakish," gets tiresome about the third listen. It's Cattaneo's only slip on the whole set, which continues to coolly shuffle all the way up to Age of Love's classic closer. ~ David Jeffries Renaissance: The Master Series Music Renaissance: The Master Series Songs | | Renaissance: The Master Series CD DISC 1: |

| Renaissance: The Master Series Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) seemlessly mixed This is hernan's best work yet. Excellent track selection, alot of new stuff with very smooth blends. Not your typical renaissance sounding cd. My favorite track is cultural assertion by tiger corps, its takes the progressive sound and mixes alittle jazz with it,definately a nice touch to this cd. I highly recommend. Hernan did the Trick!!! I walked into Best Buy after having a bad day at Front Range Community College in Larimer. I found this CD by Hernan Cattaneo, the same guy who released a CD by Perfecto Records.
When listening to this, it reminded me of a lot about Deep Dish, especially since it has 16B in it with their "Bubble Bath Mix", Ralosoul, and Bill Makris. The track that impressed me the most was on the second disc. This was Chab's track, "Closer to Me". This song is different than the version on the album Chab did himself as this is the Renaissance Mix of it.
All in all, I was very impressed (enough to give 5 out of 5 stars)!!!. I originally was introduced to house music from Baltimore, Maryland. Submitted by ffwd33 (Ft. Collins, Co, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by Deep Dish.
So for their 25th release, Global Underground recruited the dynamic duo once again to contribute to the long-running series. Two years prior, Deep Dish released one of the highlights of the entire Global Underground catalog with its Moscow mix, and now the duo has returned to pay homage to Toronto. And while they don't necessarily mix in any ...

$16.69 The first disc in Hernán Cattáneo's two-CD Renaissance: The Master Series, Vol. 2 starts so slowly it's bound to have the clubbiest of kids saying "boring." Their loss, because the DJ is spinning some of the most soothing and rich-tasting progressive house available. Cattáneo loves subdued tracks and he's an ace at finding them. Delays' "Lost in a Melody" could make the paint melt off the wall, while Pole Folder's "Salvation on Slavery Sins" is rich with atmosphere. Come ...
| | This Is Not A Clarinet / Evan Ziporyn CD (2001)
Renaissance: The Master Series music CDs
$15.89 Evan Ziporyn is the clarinetist in the Bang on a Can all-stars. This is his first solo clarinet record. It doesn't sound like any other solo clarinet record ever made because we've never heard an approach to the instrument quite like this one. While other great musicians have learned odd fingerings and different modes of breath control when exploring the seemingly limited reach of the instrument, Ziporyn took those limitations as a license to go further and expand the timbral, tonal, and mechanical reaches of the instrument into entirely new terrains. He does so here by use of variant tonguing techniques ...
