Japanese limited edition digital remastering of the 13-track album in an LP-style slipcase.

In 1978, all eyes were on Queen as they released the follow-up to their monster global hit NEWS OF THE WORLD. Predictably, JAZZ didn't achieve the massive commercial success of it's predecessor, but in aesthetic terms, it's a solid statement, and a marked progression of the band's musical vision. Though the band was already well into their "eclectic" mode by this time, the stylistic ventures the band takes on this album bring them even further afield from the heavy rock they're best known for.

Freddie Mercury kicks things off with "Mustapha," a nod to his Middle Eastern origins. Queen exhibits a ribald sense of humour on "Fat Bottomed Girls." Mercury indulges his Broadway tendencies to the hilt on "IF You Can't Beat Them" and "Don't Stop Me Now," which sound like they could have come from some obscure '50s musical. The jazzy "Dreamer's Ball" and the mellow, romantic "In Only Seven Days" provide welcome contrast. Amid all this eclecticism, though, the standout tracks are the propulsive rockers "Let Me Entertain You" (whose promise they fulfill) and "Dead on Time."

Japanese miniature LP sleeve edition available at a cheaper price from the UK for a limited time only! Originally released in 1978, Jazz features the hits 'Fat Bottomed Girls', 'Bicycle Race' and 'Don't Stop Me Now'. EMI.

Recorded in Montreux, Switzerland and Nice, France between July and October, 1978.

You Go Go Girl
Nancy Sinatra You Go Go Girl CD  (1999)

Jazz music CDs
CD $11.05  Audio Samples
Recorded between 1965 & 1969. Includes liner notes by DJ Andy Anderson. Although it's missing her duet with her dad on "Something Stupid," this 16 track collection is just about all the Nancy Sinatra you'll ever need for the collection, as it covers all the bases from her truncated, but highly successful, career. Pitting the hits against album cuts and movie soundtrack entries, this shows that Nancy had a flair for putting over a song with a strong sexual undertone, doing it back in the mid 60s when such trailblazing was more open to criticism. Includes "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'," "How Does Grab You, Darlin'?," "The Last Of The Secret Agents," You Only Live Twice," "Geronimo," and "Love Is Strange." ~ Cub Koda Compilations that can't seem to decide whether they're greatest-hits anthologies or rarities collections don't really satisfy anybody, and that's the predicament in which this Nancy Sinatra ...

Devil You Know
Todd Snider Devil You Know CD  (2006)

Jazz album
CD $12.05  4 stars Audio Samples Definitive Album
Universal Music's New Door Records subsidiary has the unusual if not unprecedented assignment of giving artists second chances at major label contracts. It seeks out people who once recorded for labels now controlled by Universal and re-signs them. Singer/songwriter Todd Snider had a three-record tenure with Margaritaville Records, Jimmy Buffett's vanity imprint with MCA, which later merged with PolyGram to form Universal. Snider then went to John Prine's indie label, Oh Boy Records. Universal signaled its renewed interest in Snider in 2005 when its Hip-O reissue subsidiary released That Was Me: The Best of Todd Snider 1994-1998, and now New Door has brought him back into the fold. Snider is certainly a man in need of second chances, in both personal and career terms, and his talent suggests he's also deserving of another look. Throughout his career, he has been a charter member of popular music's club of endearing screwups, tracing back to Hank Williams and beyond, artists whose talent could not be untangled from their tendency toward bad behavior. He remains unrepentant on The Devil You Know, playing alternately in Rolling Stones-like rock & roll arrangements and hard country acoustic styles. The characters in his songs, many of them first-person narrators, are charming ne'er-do-wells, starting with the one in the Chuck Berry-style rocker "If Tomorrow Never Comes" who snarls, "If tomorrow never comes, I don't give a damn." (No, this isn't a cover of the super-sensitive Garth Brooks song of the same title.) From there, the "I" characters spar with their bosses, their old friends, and their girlfriends, never too far away from another drink and another trip down the road. Snider is acutely aware that other performers have been down that road before. In "Thin Wild Mercury" (a title Dylanologists will recognize as Bob Dylan's description of the sound he was looking for when he made Blonde on Blonde), Snider eulogizes Phil Ochs, recalling a reported dispute between Ochs and Dylan. It's no surprise that his sympathies lie with Ochs, who self-destructed, rather than Dylan, who went on to a long career. Addressing ...

On his 2007 full-length studio follow-up to WITH TEETH, Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor steps away from the relatively straight-ahead rock aesthetic of that record, opting instead for an intentionally abrasive sound lined with sharp shards of noise and static. Tied together by an enigmatic, X-FILES-like concept involving an apocalyptic scenario, YEAR ZERO is marked by tell-tale tracks such as "Survivalism," a fierce number that harkens back to THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL, and "In This Twilight," ...
Map In Hand
David James Map In Hand CD  (2007)

Jazz music CDs
CD $5.99
At the age of 18, James is releasing his full-length album "The Map in Hand." James grew up with the guitars and voices of James Taylor, the Beatles, Queen, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Collective Soul. Usually he heard them riding in a car on 99E with his dad and two older brothers.A few years later, James and his brothers, Peter and Andrew, formed a band. Peter, the oldest, played electric guitar, Andrew was on drums, and James sang and played electric bass. They were called Bird's Eye View. Bird's Eye View practiced endlessly in a bedroom in north Portland (Oregon). The sound the brothers produced was an extraordinarily advanced brand of alternative rock. James met a man named Chris, who had a home recording studio. Bird's Eye View recorded five songs in that studio. Andrew sent those songs in to the Portland Rose Festival's MusicFest Competition. They were accepted as part of the top eleven bands out of Portland. James was 13.They didn't win the competition, but playing for industry professionals was honor enough. Bird's Eye View continued to rock. Then the brothers began to play in other bands, as James played in some pyschedelic rock, grunge, alternative rock bands and orchestras.Though James wrote a lot of the songs in Bird's Eye View as it was, he began to write solo songs on acoustic guitar. Quickly filling up 100 page notebook after 100 page notebook, James began to write some quality tunes. He went back to Chris. They recorded more. And more. And after spending some time with Chris in the studio, life made it hard to record more.Maturing, maturing, maturing. Musically and otherwise. Then, in May of 2006, James received a phone call from Chris. "Hey James, we're moving into a new house and I'd like to build a recording studio in my three-car garage. Would you like to help build it, and then be the first to record an album in it?" Did it have to be asked? Of course James would want to!So they went to work. Well, mainly Chris. But James helped as much as he could. A few weeks later, a studio was in place. James got to work. He had already been writing songs prolificly around the time Chris called, but the call charged him with purpose. He enlisted Kenny, a friend and drummer from school, to lay down drums for songs on the album. Levi Lais played some mandolin, and Jessica (Chris' daughter) sang a bit. "The process was the best part," says James, "getting to hear songs progress from just me and a guitar to a full-fledged, kick butt tune was amazing. Ironically, there were also songs that stayed just me and a guitar. And I love both types. I hope ...
