7th Avenue (2004) album
$13.49 East Coast hardcore rap artist KJ-52 assumes the role of cool ringmaster over a myriad of coconspirators as he deftly deals sleek pop hooks, funky dance beats, and sharp-witted streetwise wordplay on Collaborations. As the title implies, KJ-52 teams with various mixers, melding humor and aggression with musical and lyrical analogies that are entertaining and heartfelt. "5th Element," which details the five essential components of hip-hop from the first-person perspective of a shell-toe Adidas, a microphone, a turntable, and a spray can, is ingenious and infectious. An a cappella ...
| | KJ-52 It's Pronounced Five Two CD (2003)
7th Avenue (2004) CD music
$15.05 "Now y'all be messin' up my name/It's not '52'/It don't stand for 'King James'." On his third full-length, Godorific rapper KJ-52 wants everyone to know where he comes from, and who it's all for. The 'K' stands for 'knowledge', and the 'J' 'justification' (like Romans 10:9, yo!), while '5' is the loaves and '2' is the fishes. Looks like there are even some haters in the Christian rap game. But KJ can't stay mad at anyone -- Christian, secular, or otherwise. "Whoop Whoop" rocks a stuttering PG-rated Dirty South rhythm under raps about bustin' mad prayers all night, while "Rock On" (featuring Pillar's Rob Beckley) turns up the amps and demands to see heads-a-noddin' on the dancefloor. There's even a Rob Base sample buried in there. As he did with 2002's Collaborations, producer Todd Collins quite effectively redirects the infectious energy of mainstream hip-hop to help his man, KJ, incite some faith-based booty shaking. And 52 himself finds new ways to blend positivity with pop culture -- "47 Pop Stars" shouts out to a heavenly host of rockers and rappers while trying to explain why the big ...

7th Avenue (2004) album
$9.85 From its earliest days, hip-hop has really been about "The Message," perhaps best summed up by Grandmaster Flash's enduring 1982 classic of the same name. While that song's decaying world evokes feelings of spiritual abandonment, the forceful track lays undeniable claim to rap's power as a pulpit. Although hip-hop's first few decades did not produce ...

| | Under Aspect Became Mechanical CD (2008)
7th Avenue (2004) CD music
$11.39 Under Aspect, a sound tainted with heavy riffs and addictive melodies, invites new-metal fans to see a whole new universe of hard pounding music. Inspired by bands such as Deftones, Sevendust, Tool, Portishead, Chevelle, Korn and Killswitch Engage, the five piece band quickly cooked the right recipe to get a warm place among the enormous Montreal music scene. With over 50 scenic apparitions for their first year playing together, they earned the price for the band with the most impressive performances in the 2006-2007 MAD production's tour presented by Musique Plus. This mention gave them a chance to show a big audience what they could do on the Club Soda's Stage by performing their piece of resistance Click! Bang! & Goodbye. This very same piece opens with energy their new album «Became Mechanical». This first opus was entirely produced by the five members who felt the need to evolve freely in their art. The finished, yet not mastered project, was put in the hands of Jeff Fortin, guitarist for Anonymus (Galy Records) who added the professional spice in Hugues Bouchard's work, young drummer of the formation (Rec productions). The chemistry that unites the five protagonists offers a totally new aspect of what a show signifies to some people. The interaction with the crowd seems to be right formula which the band adopted throughout Quebec. With the experience acquired, they were ready to entertain fans of Anonymus, Vulgaires Machins, Alcoholica, GFK, and more. Built from 13 somewhat provocative songs, the album steps firmly into the enemy camp. Not to make noise, but to clear up the terrain. Liberty of expression, passion and anthropologic questionings are all part of de lyricist's way of telling the stories. Stories that sometimes feel like a slap in the face. Under Aspect was formed in March 2006 in St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, a small city near Montreal. Composed of five members, Hugues Bouchard on drums, Charles Courteau and Jean-François Lafaille on guitars, ...
